Splendid China

Splendid China is gone, isn't it? I thought they closed a few months ago.

I have only been in the entry part - kind of scary place being so dead and quiet. But I thought it owuld be neat if somebody turned it into a themed hotel of some kind. Not a tropical playhouse Holiday Inn, but a real themed hotel like Disney has, but off-site and something I can afford to stay at!

It was a Chinese theme park on 192 that closed some months ago. I would guess it was open for about six or so years before going bust.

It has been around since the early 90s, actually, Shows you just how popular, or not, it was. Basically a bunch of minatures about China, with some shows (sopme people say the shows were actually pretty good). But it didn't have the attendance to survive, and is far more valuable as hotel property. The thing is it was owned in part by the Chinese Government, so it stuck around for a while.

I actually wasted a day there in the mid 90's... I couldn't tell you what year, though. '96? Anyway, it was small, and it was mostly outdoors... No rides (at least when I was there), not a lot of food options... Fujifilm and Coke were major sponsors... everything had one or the other's logo on it. If I remember correctly, there was a display that was on a hill, and you could see someone's house on the outside of the park. One area looked temporary, like it was under a tent, and it had a huge (yet cheap looking) animated Panda figure. It didn't strike me as Disney-quality in any aspect. Asia at AK did a better job than this abysmal park.

Edit:
I Googled it, and I remember the name of the one thing that I liked about the park: it had the Stone Forrest. That was pretty cool, but not enough to make up for the lack of rides and attractions.
