Can anyone give me any information on this show that debuted in Epcot I think around 92 or 93? I take it it was a night show?

At one point there was a show based around the fountain in the center of Innoventions (Communicore back then). There were some large animatronic figures that rose out of the garden at the edge of Communicore West, and large inflatibles that rose up behind the fountain near Spaceship Earth. I seem to remember the performers on stilts. Most of the performers arrived on the stage by coming up ramps that went down on each side of the fountain. It was a strange show. The fact that I don't remember the show's content makes me think it wasn't a WOW. I do remember you had to stand in the area between Future World and the present kid friendly fountatin to see it. It was during this period that the fountain got it's big explosive jets of water. Prior to that show, the fountain was just a normal fountain, so we can thank "Splashtacular" or whatever it was called for the present ever changing fountain.

I remember seeing something like this with a huge audo-anamatronic dragon or something like that durring the XMas show around '94.

Mickey was in it, but that's all I know.

Did this show involve aerial acrobats doing stunts on very high poles? I remember a show like that in Epcot back in the early '90's but i don't really remember what it was.

Isn't there a wesite called 'forgotton disney' or something like that, it's about old attractions and shows from disney parks. I'll try to find it.

Wow...I have been searching all night for the anwser... i have only seen informaion for Splashtacular on two Disney timelines. It did indeed debut in 93, but that's all the information i could find.

Do you subscribe to Disney Magazine? In there is a great section called "Ask Dave Smith" (he is the disney expert) where readers write in and ask tough questions about Disney (mostly nastalga) That would be a great question to ask him...I bet it would get published too. If you don't want to write in, tell me, I will because now you have me wondering too.

i totally remember this show! couldn't really remember the name of it though (now i do :D ) personally, i really liked it...but i was like 8 at the time. had mickey and minnie and singers dressed in futuristic wardrobe (duh...it's furture world! :D ;) ) also, seems like there were dancers/singers dressed as butterflies. i remember the villian of the show so well, cuz whatever it was always confused the heck outta me as a kid! it looked like a woman, but the voice was deep enough to sound like a man. actually, it kinda freaked me out a little. but my favorite part of the whole show was when the giant animatronic monster (seemed to be a t-rex type thing...only had a head and what appeared to be a metal rib cage...pretty cool lookin, if you ask me) rose up out of the trees and bushes to the left. i just loved that monster...especially since it looked like a t-rex (i've always loved dinosaurs)
the music was pretty good...course, back then just about all disney songs were good in an 8 year old's eyes. dad recorded it, so i'll have to get the tapes out and watch it again to jog my memory on it a bit!

btw, i thought by then it was already innoventions (or at least being transformed into innoventions) instead of communicore. when DID that transformation happen, anyway? i remember it happening, but i can never remember when!

Splashtacular

Taken from my EPCOT 1994 Entertainment guide April 17 - 23 :-

Splashtacular - "Imagination takes flight as Mickey brings elements of water and color to life" Presented at CommuniCore Fountain Stage. Saturday & Sunday 11.50am, 2.10, 3.50 & 5.30pm.

I have some pics here at home (unfortunately no scanner) showing the cast, including the popular characters, in very "futuristic" type costumes. It was performed to music with the fountains playing a key role. There was also a dinosaurs head which appeared from out of the shrubbery at the side of the fountain stage.

Does an early Fantasmic spring to mind - there are many elements here which have a connection to The Studios.

I have some footage of the show on tape from the Christmas Parade- 93 or 94 Tv show, introduced by Bill Nyie the science Guy.The show had mickey and the gang dance with the futuer water fountain and colors of the rainbow, dancers, ballons, daytime fireworks. An evil sorceress takes away the fountain and color .Mickey climbs into a lift an rises above the stage overlooking everyone,He yells for the gaurds, which are men dress in mickey shaped armor and swords atop stilts.the sorceress calls for backup from a large open brained machine monster who is distroyed by mickey and the fountains. A large rainbow ballon ,fireworks, dancers and such ends the show. The Huge monster head was relocated to the Magic Kingdom around 94"to the Galaxy Theater in Tomorrowland. It became part of a show where Disney characters used space aliens to win a talent contest.
