Splash Mountain Re-Opens

Splash Mountain was open today. I think today was more of a soft-opening and getting ready to open normally (as scheduled) tomorrow. Here are some notes.
  • The Briar Patch that you see from the bridge has been painted and new leaves have been added. The colors are really bright now and not so dull looking.
  • The Stand-By line had no wait time posted but Fast Passes were being distributed. The Stand-By wait at 12:30 only took about 10 minutes. The line started at the bottom of the stairs.
  • Half of the animatronics were not working.
    - Bees in the Laughing Place were not spinning around the hives.
    - Hopping Brer Rabbit wasn't working
    - The Brer Bear that was caught in the rope trap wasn't moving at all.
    - The frog on the aligators back wasn't working.
    - The moles in the Laughing Place were all sticking up out of the ground and didn't pop up.
  • The silhouette of Brer Bear and Brer Fox chasing Brer Rabbit over the hill looked absolutely horrible. You could see scrambled lines around them that made it incredibly obvious it was being projected. I've never seen it look so bad.
  • The water fall on the right side of the log before the little dip into the finale wasn't turned on.
The only real noticeable difference (aside from the things not working which I'm sure WILL BE tomorrow) was the Briar Patch being touched up. The water seems to squirt more powerfully now, too.

I'm not really sure what they did the past month to be honest. I really wish they had kept it down for a few extra months and gave it a iasw touch up and made the colors brighter. With so much not working today and the quality of the silhouette I almost forgot I was at Disney World and started to wonder how I ended up at Six Flags. Hopefully it is all working fine tomorrow. I wouldn't plan on seeing anything different than what you remember from a month ago.

Dang, it must have been mainly an exterior/ride system refurbishment. :(

Splash Mountain really needs some extensive work by the sound of it... sounds worse than it was before the refurb!

The aa's looked really really awful the last time I was there. Mainly their fur though. I remember seeing the wires on that one Brer Fox aa thats trying to put the beehive on Brer Rabbit right before the short laughing place drop. A couple of years ago, they Brer Rabbit thats tied up at the top of the lift hill had one foot.

Hopefully they get all of this squared away, because it looks worse and worse each year.

Today you could see the mechanic legs inside of the Brer Bear after the finale scene where he is stuck and Brer Fox is standing on him with a gator right behind them. Everytime Brer Bear would rock back and forth you could see the mechanics inside poking into the fur. Not really a big deal to me, but it looked like it was going to rip through a few of the times I saw it "pulse" out.

I'm sure the animatronics will be better tomorrow since I think I saw that the rehab schedule had the 28th listed as still being closed. With the wait time not posted it seemed like it was still in some kind of preview mode. Seeing the animatronics not moving reminded me of Rip Saw Falls where they have a lot of solid characters that don't move but just have the dialouge going.

Also worth noting. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was supposed to go down today for refurb but was up and running today.

Thanks for the update! I recall some issues with the AAs on our last trip and was hoping they'd get some TLC...hopefully everything is ship-shape for tomorrow. What about the system updates Steve mentioned- did you notice anything to that effect?

No real difference as far as the feel of the ride went. I did notice that the times I rode it seemed like the logs would be going and jam into the walls and stop in weird spots quite a bit which I've never seen before. Why it would start doing that now, I have no clue.

We went back tonight and I noticed a few differences. A few more of the animatronics were working (moles popping up, frog fishing on croc's back). A bunch of significant AAs were still down (hanging Brer Bear, Brer Rabbit stuck in the bee hive, hopping Brer Rabbit).

Also, on the lift hill next to the Briar Patch (the one where the water shoots onto you), there is a wall on the left side of the bottom of the hill. The four of us were pretty sure it was new, but it very well could have been something we just didn't pay attention to when we went looking for new things. I seem to remember looking off the mountain from that point and being able to see below.

Still very disappointed that a lot of AAs were motionless, some of which were stuck in weird positions that you could tell they were supposed to be moving (Bee-hive Brer Rabbit staring with his head sideways at the wall).

I rode it at 10 this morning and it had a ton of AA problems. I did notice the sound was alot better and the lighting was fixed. The AA being down was really annoying and i let a CM know... they were really unhappy about it.

I just got back from WDW and rode this a few times. I noticed that "fur" on many of the animals was new, and I swear that the water moved the logs much more rapidly than before. If someone tells me how to post some pictures, I will post mine.

Yeah went and rode splash today. Since I work there and am very familiar with the ride and I did notice a few changes. ALOT of the fur was replaced. For some reason the first 2 times you see Brer Fox he didn't have his hat on. Many AA weren't working and It seems as if that was a problem throughout the day maybe. When I got off the ride at about 8:20pm, I saw a few of my managers in the station and they were in the process of cycling out the ride and trying to fix the problem.(walked by at about 10pm during EMH, and it was back up and running) On the brighter side of things though, the water cannons werent on. It was very cold and I think maybe thats why they shut them down, plus parade was not to far from starting and they usually turn them off during parade. The Splash Bridge however was wet, which lets me know that they were working at one point. A few new lighting changes too. It seemed much brighter going into drop 3. The area of the ride where the bees buzz around bee hives (aka brer bear gets hives), the bees seemed alot brighter.(and some of the bees were not moving at all) Also brighter when you hit the final lift hill, right after the vultures. Hopefully they get all the kinks worked out. Have a few photos but nothing that exciting so Im not gonna waste my time showing everybody a few very basic changes.
