Splash Mountain Model

Ok, so here is what I want to do...I want to create a "working" model of Splash Mountain...I'm probably not going to make all the different interior set pieces...but currently I'm thinking I will carve the flume out of foam probably and then seal it with some sort of a resin...any other ideas on materials? The thing I'm most scared about is making the rock-work look realistic.

As far as the ride components go...since Splash is basically a "flow" ride I will just need to pump water to the top of the lift hills and let it go from there. I saw on another forum someone was thinking about buying a kit for $300 to use the lift hills...but I don't think it would be that expensive to manufacture something...especially since it doesn't require much power to move a little belt...(I'm thinking like the old Kinex roller coaster motors on the lift hill, or something like that)

And does anyone have good info to base scaling off of? (blueprints etc?) I am planning on updating this post and a blog about it as I go.

One question, why exactly do you want to build Splash? And if just for fun why did you go for the most complicated :P

Anyway I would recommend newspaper strips dipped in PVA glue mixed with sand for the rockwork.

It's my favorite ride! :) And yeah I realize it's probably the most complicated...I'm not planning on doing any of the interior/set pieces...I'm thinking like 1/64 or 1/43 for scale. either would put the height of the model at 1-2 feet.

Ok so returning to this...I have decided to 3D print Splash at 1/108 th scale...the model will be almost 10 inches tall, and around 7inches wide....I decided since 3D printing is waterproof plastic material...I will even be able to model water ducts right up through the model...and a small area for a pump room...I'm pretty excited...will be a cool thing for the home office!! I just have to get one of my more artistically gifted friends to paint it!!

I love models, someone else it seems had a similar idea for Disneyland's Splash Mountain-

It would be fun to build working models of theme park attractions as a hobby, but I have neither the extra funds (nor likely enough artistic talent) to do it myself.

Just wondering if you ever finished this project? If so, I’d love to see it! And possibly buy a pdf for 3d printing myself. Thanks!

It was my favorite ride too. It really is a shame that they rethemed it just because some people complained about a movie that nobody has seen in decades. I’m all for inclusion but I really did love splash mountain especially zip a dee do dah.
