Splash Mountain *long* refurb?

As you can see, on this link it says that Splash will close mid-January and open mid-May, but that can only get me wondering "why so long"?

Anyone else know? Or is it just annual maintenance...? (probably unlikely)

I remember reading on one of the WDW rumour threads about a major redo of the que area on Spash mtn this could possible be the reason for the same thing to happen at Disneyland.

I've never ridden the Splash ride at Disneyland, but if it's anything like WDW's, then IMO a major refurb of the AAs is definitely in order.

I visit both WDW and DL frequently, and I can confidently say that the AA's at DL's Splash are always in better shape than WDW's.

I have no idea what the refurb is about, but I'd be disappointed if it's just for the que.

Disneyland doesn't have the maintenance problems WDW has. The animatronics here on all the E Tickets are in noticeably better shape than their WDW counterparts.

Pirates is where the superior Disneyland maintenance shows the most, maybe because the boats travel so slowly and you have more time to notice, but effects and animatronics and audio are in much better shape on the Disneyland attractions overall.

This long rehab could be for some major mechanical/logistical thing, like replacing water pumps or making more space for wheelchairs in the loading area. That loading area is so narrow and cramped, they never gave any thought to wheelchairs and those huge electric carts people drive now!

I thought this refurb would be to put in the long rumored lap bars:shrug:

Don't really think they are neccesary but whatever..

The Disneyland version is in way better shape than it's WDW counterpart. I can't imagine they're closing it that long...unless they're going through with that rumored lap bar restraint addition and maybe some additional touch-ups here and there.
Glad I won't be back over there until next summer...I love their Splash Mountain!

Now that's funny, as Splash Mountain is about the only attraction at Magic Kingdom that I find noticeably superior to the Disneyland version. I never knew Splash Mountain even had a plotline until I rode the Magic Kingdom version with its better pacing and plot development.

Of course the maintenance and upkeep is noticeably inferior at the Magic Kingdom version, as it is with just about everything in WDW.

But if they could maintain it as well as Disneyland maintains things, then the Magic Kingdom version of Splash Mountain 1992 would be the clear winner over the first Splash Mountain 1989 at Disneyland.
