Spectromagic Performers!? [Questions]

I was wondering.. Who on this forum was a Spectromagic performer? Just curious :P Also, I always wondered what the little guys (They had a mask, not anymore) meant? Like the guys on the color changing balls? Whats the point of them having them in the parade. I think thats the best part of the parade are the guys spinning on the balls, but never actually knew what they meant and why they were put there? I forgot to mention.. How do those balls work? Like do they randomly have a memory of where to turn and stuff? Or what o_O

Thanks!

This may sound strange but I get a little creeped out by those guys.
Here you are at WDW, expecting Disney characters in a parade, and along come some guys sitting on top of spinning balls.

i thought they were awesome, and my dad thought they were robots for a long time but now he knows they are actual people LOL but i use to think the reason they had those people was cause of the movie Dumbo cause they sorta looked like clowns

Several of my friends who work at the world (I work at Radio Disney in Richmond, VA) are in Spectro.

That is very very cool. Spectromagic is by far one of my favorite parades aside from Parade of Dreams :)

You are so right - they are very creepy!

A friend said she thought they were supposed to be dolls?

I just close my eyes til they pass!

I believe they were suppose to be robot dolls? I dont know but, how could you close your eyes on these amazing creatures :ROFLOL:

Yeah, i remember my parents said i was 1. And I would cry because the guys on the spinning balls would scare me with their laughs. lol.

I was a performer for years :)

Were you a performer for Spectromagic and what position!? That is very very cool.

Yup, they are called spectromen. Their purpose is to create all of the energy/electricity/light for the parade- that's why they're in the very beginning. As for the balls that spin (or whirly pods), there are drivers in each of them.

oh and for your first question- I am a performer in the ent. dept, but I'm not cast in Spectro

Can you really be a performer in a parade as opposed to being just a friend of a performer? :lookaroun

I was Cast in SPM last summer. And, you're right. That's exactly what they represent :)

The Spectromen were always my favorite part of the parade. Now that they took away their masks, I'm mildly creeped out by them. Kind of like how I'm creeped out by the Hook and Smee face characters in the stage show in front of the castle and the moving character mouths. Some things are better left alone.

I always thought that those pods were computer operated too. And I think they look out of place now without their masks. And my favorite part is the trumpet players .:) Thanks for the new info.
