Special MGM Animation Tour Worth It?

My girlfriend's mom is an animation fiend, she loves the stuff, and as a special birthday present, we wanted to surprise her with sending her on the Animation Tour described in the Birnbaum book. My only question-is it worth it? Is it THAT much different from the one that you take at MGM anyway- the main tour I mean?

I don't know anything about that tour. However 3 or 4 years ago I went when they were having an animation celebration of some sort. I think they did it in October. The had stands set up so you could hear from animators etc. They also taught you to draw some characters. This was all free. They even gave (yes gave not sold) you a little drawing book and something else.

A cast member might respond and tell you if they still do this or you can write to guest relations and ask.

The way the economy is going the probably charge for this now too.

I took the behind the scenes animation tour three years ago and really enjoyed it. We got to make our own cells. We also did get a better idea of the history of animation also. I recommend it.

I did this this year and I liked it. Some people might say that the normal animation tour is better, but I think that this is kind of a bonus. You go around the park for a little while learning about how Walt Disney got started in animation, then you get to go backstage. You don't go into the actual animation building, as it is strictly off limits to pretty much everyone not working in the building, even the cast members, but you do go in a backstage office building. I thought it was cool that you got to go somewhere backstage, because, looking around, you can tell that this is where the real stuff is going on (although the area we walked through seemed kinda empty at the time!).
You can have your cells sent home if you want, because they need to dry off for a few days.

I must say that I enjoyed it when I went two years ago. I think it was two years ago. But I thought that they stopped it this year. Well maybe not.
