Space Mountain updates!!?!?!?

Why does it seem that Disney likes to update classics at Disneyland, whicle leaving the classics virtually untouched at WDW? Disney keeps updating the "newer" attractions at WDW. For example, Tower of Tower (opened less than 10 years ago) has had four updates so far, Test Track has had at least one update, and Alien Encounters is already being replaced. Even Buzz Light Year (one of the newest rides) just got an update with a camera system and a new walkthrough ending just a couple of months ago. Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Space Mountain are still almost identical to how they were when they first opened in the 1970's, while these atttractions have been updated in recent years over in California.

Take Space Mountain at DL. It was updated with a onboard speaker system and updated again with the camera system in recent years, and is now getting a complete makeover, replacing the track system and newer special effects. Will they ever update WDW's version? We (Florida) are so far behind as far as these updates go! And why haven't they improved the rest of "classics" yet? Why do we still have 1970's AA figures in PotC, for example?

One reason is because of the 50th anni coming up. And they want to have everything working like a charm.

Two, it seems to me that DL is working on updates, while WDW is getting the new rides. When each Mouse House is done with their projects, then we were at Disney World will get the big updates, and DL will get the new stuff.

Why would you want the classic attractions to be changed???

I for one am glad our rides are not getting changed, as DL is. I prefer WDW version of Space Mountain, whether or not there is music. It's a funner and not as intense/boring ride.

PoTC was changed to make it "PC", since California is Liberalism out of control.

Tiki birds needed a change, WDW got it, DL didn't, so there's another feather in WDW cap (pun intended).

I see nothing wrong with Space, Pirates, Haunted Mansion that would warrant any change :-)

I TOTALLY agree with you on this one. These are classic attractions and should not be altered. They still capture the hearts of young and young at heart as Magic Kingdom philosophy states. :slurp: I think that new rides based on older ones could be taken to other non-Magic Kingdom parks and be altered and a name change could occur. Also, change the theme to fit in to where it goes to. Please don't get rid of the few classics that still remain at Magic Kingdom though... :brick:

I agree and disagree with your suggestions PeterAlt. Changes to many classic rides are in need, but not as much as doing it "the tiki room way" . For example, Pirates of the Caribbean. New AA's here and there to make it look like they are alive, new boats possibly. Haunted Mansion? All I can say is we need HM Holiday. it's a small world could use an outdoor start with a huge facade, hey it could start up where the Village Haus is and there could be a drop into "the rest of the world."

As for SM I agree with you 100%........

The entire ride is in a MAJOR need of change. I say gut the entire building out and replace with a new track. The track we have now delivers a rough ride and is tough for us tall peeps who get whiplash from d__________g our heads the entire time (if I may say, I speak for the entire tall-peeps population). We really could use DLP's version with the launch. The Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. is not necessary at all, despite the fact it is the 'gift shop' for SM and also the exit. REDO SPACE MOUNTAIN!!!!:fork:

Could I ask why a big line is between the d and g? I sure didn't put it there. It says d__________g.

EDIT: It says duck.ing. Why is there a line?

The sensor is picking up the letters for the "other word" I guess.

Heh, I remember the one time when Shaq was still with the Magic, they wouldnt let him go on it because he was too tall. Highly doubt Yeo will ever go on that thing too.

L&P Co. is nothing but that arcade. But it seems logical. Let the ankle bitters who are too small to to ride it, run around and play the games while they wait for the rest of the party to get out.

True it could be a seperate building though.

I rode that earlier this year, and it was easily the most painful ride I've ever had on any Disney attraction. It suffers from an extreme case of Vekoma rot. RnRC has started to show some of the symptoms, but not nearly to the same extent.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to change (depending on exactly what kind of change) but I still like WDW's SM just the way it is.

I'm about 6' 2", by the way. :)

Ah, I see X2 .......so that's why i've seen that while looking at information on that Crimestoppers ride:lol: . I never knew it did that BTW.

MrNonacho, you thought it was a painful ride? Heck I thought it was a lot smoother than WDWs and DLs. I've been on Tokyo's SM, it was in between. Some parts were uncomfortable while others were fine.

I'm 6'1" by the way, and still growing. :)

The main problem I have with space mountain is the very first seat. No room. I've got long legs, and I know about the cramped space in that seat.

But every time I go in there, like a person with altzimers, I request the first seat:brick:

Actually i totally agree. Our attractions need to be updated. I know they're classic and all. but updating the aa's, etc wouldn't ruin the experience. And Space- while it is fun, it is really dated and needs to be modernized...

Tell me about it! I think it adds to the ride though... something about the crampedness (is that a word?) adds to the excitement.

NemoRocks78, heck yeah it was rough! I was getting slammed around like a ragdoll and my head kept hitting the harness. Granted, I was sitting in the back row, but I just rode RnRC in the back yesterday and it was smooth as silk by comparison.

A CM told me once that the clearance inside SM was "plenty". It just happens to be that due to virtually no light inside, and the disco-ball light effects near the bottom, it just seems like there's not enough clearance for taller people. Thats why many feel they need to duck, and definately keep the hands down, during the ride.

Is any of this true, or am I being fed a load of crap again?

I dont see the relevence of altzimers. Maybe you could show some sensitivity to a serious disease, rather than making some attempt at (unfunny) humor.

Same question... I haven't noticed any changes since opening with the ride. FastPass and Single-Riders lines, that's about it. They also stopped soing some of those cool special affects in the queue!! Not to mention that car that used to crash into the wall right before the crash test. :slurp: But no "upgrades" really...

For awhile, they used to block off loading rows 7&8, now they load from all the rows. Guess that could be an upgrade.

The last thing Disney needs is another Vekoma ride in their parks (but I heard they are doing Everest, oh well)

Launch rides are "trendy", so who needs them. Give me a traditional chain lift coaster any day of the week. Look at THE best coasters out there today, Millenium Force, Superman Ride of Steel, and every wood coaster. No launches! Granted, launches are fun, but get very tiring, fast!
