Space Mountain Trivia

This is an (to me) obscure piece of trivia I like to throw out at people, and usually, it blows people away. If someone here knows, I wouldn't be suprised. To me, it's one piece I can carry with me, and amaze people with.

Anyway, the "above head scene" while waiting in line\etc....what effect was actually used to make the asteroids?
