Space Mountain-Right or Left?

Some people say there's a difference between the sides, some say that both sides are exactly the same (I remember getting into a lengthy debate with a nice CM about this-she said that there wasn't any difference). I love the Left side but which is YOUR personal favorite? The right side or the left side. :animwink:

If you have a choice between right or left always choose left. The reason for this is the majority of people are right handed and those people will tend to go to the right, whereas left handed people will tend to go to the left. I have tried this theory out on my many trips to WDW and it always seems to work. However, on rides like SM there is a CM directing you to a certain line so it does not really make a difference. On rides like POC it does work.

Im no psychologist but I have a feeling that people feel the "right" side is smoother because they turn "left" alot more on that side, like a race track. People are for some reason more used to turning "left" which means when their body has force pushed on it on a left hand turn it feels more normal. However, when a quick jolt is made to the right it feels much more violent. I'm almost convinced of this.

Besides. how could we actually know if one track is really much different from the other. It's in teh dark and no matter how much you ride it you dont have it memorized to where you can say the other side is the exact same or not.

I like the one that's longer. I know it's only by like, 10 feet, but hey, it's longer. I don't remember which side it is though, I think it's the right one... I also like on the right how it does that bunny hill by the lift hill and then turns right into a tunnel... I like that part :p

I always try to choose the left side. It always seemed to me that the left side was alittle faster, and the main drop in the middle seemed steeper and faster. Maybe that's all in my head, but I prefer the left side.

It's the right. And I agree, the right side is better.:)

I've always liked the right side better. I've tried the left every once and a while, but for some reason i feel its not as good at the right side. :-\

i didnt know there was a difference
ive only been on it like twice or so and ive gone on the right side
or the left side
how do we determine which side is which? i mean if im facing the ride like a cm ive only been on the left one, but if im in the line like a guest then ive only been on the right one...
ive been up since 6:brick:

There is no "main drop" ;). From my experiences the biggest drop is about halfway through the ride. It gives great airtime in the back car :)

I believe the "big drop" is around a whopping 15ft.
Not at a very steep angle either.

I'm probably too picky, but Space Mountain's ride has really gone down the drain in the last few years. It's gotten too rickety and bumpy for my taste.

I'm holding out hope for a new track after DL gets theirs.

I have ridden both sides of SM and i like the LEFT better than the right. I agree with some of you, the LEFT seems faster than the right, and the hills seem bigger. It could just be a mental thing but thats what it seemed. Also, I havent been on Space Mountain at night, but my aunt says that Space Mountain actually is faster at night, because all of the little kids are gone, so therefore they make it is faster. She insists that it is faster at night at DL also.

I always went for the left side, as it seemed faster. But now there does not seem much of a difference.

With the exception of a small stretch of the track to get you back to the loading bay I believe both tracks are exact mirror images of each other.

As regards speed, they get faster as the day wears on and the lubricants in the wheels heat up – so I recall reading.

It isn't possible to make the coaster go faster, it's ran by gravity. The only reason coasters go faster is because the oil in the wheels have heated up durring the day. But that would only make a fraction difference. And usually this is the case for coasters that are outdoors.

Unless Newton has discovered a new law of gravity, don't believe everything you hear. :animwink:
