Space Mountain Last Night?

I am just curious to see if anyone knows what was up with Space Mountain last night. Ready to go, and getting ready to be put on the lift hill our car stopped. Quickly, people in the security booth were calling and looking at their monitors. Soon, cast members were scrambling like ants after you step in a pile!! Then the lights came on, we were taken off the ride, the entire building, including the line, was evacuated. Does anyone have any idea what happened?? This was at around 10:35 PM last night, we were compensated with one of those attraction passes, but the park was closing at 11 PM!! I guess it will be used the next time I am at Magic Kingdom...

hmmm sounds interesting
it sound to me like a slightly major malfunction, not sure why they evact the whole building though.
the lights come on when there is something fairly major on one of the tracks i think.
can someone with the correct info on how the system works shed some light on this

maybe there was something like an animal on the tracks -i hope not but some people did say on these pages that animals are found in the space mountain rooms where the machines or something like that are.

i too agree it would be nice to know what went on!:)

That sounds a bit scary. One of my roommates while I was on the CP work at space mountain. He says they are very strict about safety rules. One time he forgot to push down a safety bar in an empty seat and got a warning for not doing that. The ride comes back and they think someone might have fallen out if they don't put it down. You get three warnings before you are terminated. But to stop the ride and haul everyone off, sound serious.

Wow I would think there would be some kind of trigger for when a bar is up it would not be hit and the car would not be allowed to leave the station. Even for as old as Space is..I thought it had that.

My strong guess would be a fire alarm or some type of alarm went off and no time to check wether it was serious situation or not and they got everyone off and out of the buiding as quick and as saftley as possible.

Not to get off topic, but I would guess the same thing applies at any other attraction that uses a safety bar ?

I'm not sure why SM was shut down this time; but I know that it often "breaks down" if something falls out a rocket and trips a sensor, if someone takes too long to board, and if someone takes too long at the unload station. I've never worked attractions, but I've been told that the allowed unload time is much less than a minute.

I'm pretty sure.

It could have been a back-up, where unload couldn't keep up with load, causing the lights to come on.

Was the TTA still running?, because if were a fire/building problem they would have to evacuate that as well. If not, it was probally just a ride problem.

Perhaps a mischevious little CM set the alarm off themselves in order to finish their late shift and get home a little quicker?!?

Evacuation? Hmmm, sounds like either a fire or a suspicious package to me. I don't think they would evacuate just cause something fell on the tracks.

Hope someone in the know will respond.

now i think about it, a backlog at the unload/load station sounds likely.
i still dont see why they evact the whole building if it was a backlog.
if the TTA was stopped too then it could have been a fire alarm.

I was filming down at Space Mountian yesterday with the crew when it happened.

Because of our privillages with park access Hi-AWP we managed to grab a few cast members - apparantly 3 smoke detectors went off, as part of a planned late night 'with guests' drill.

They do this to test thier logistics when it comes to evacuating an entire ride. Obviously they can check fire alarms as often as they want, but to make sure they get evacution procedures correct it is ony possible to do it when guests are in the park.

Obviously this i dissapointing from a guests point of view, as they have to leave the attraction. But still, i suppose it is better to leave the ride and allow the cast members to brush up on procedures, than be in there when a real evacuation is needed and get trapped, or not know where to go etc etc.

Still, Disney cast members always cover this up by pretending it was genuine, otherwise they will have hundreds of angry guests asking them for a re-detro for thier misunderplacing.

This is apparantly why they do them late at night, it is the time when less of a 'stir' is caused, and they can just keep the ride shut until closing time. rather than make excuses over why the ride was 'mysteriously' re-opened.

Apprantly this thing happens a lot, so if it's late in the evening and they need to evacuate a ride...tell the cast members that you know it is fake, to loose some god damn weight, and let you on the darn ride! damn disney staff...damn you damn you nazis!! Lol

Still...made for an interesting interview for us guys, not sure if there is any capacity for us to air it though.

Anyway, hope this answers your question

Yes, let's defend Nazi's, they were people too.

You know I would rather they do this early in the day, so you can still go back and get a ride in. I would be ticked if I was getting ready for my last ride of the day (or even worse, last ride of my trip!), and a fake break down ruined it. I know they need to test, but I'd say early is better than late. But that's just my opinion.

A suspicious package doesn't get enough interest from WDW security to warrant a building evacuation... trust me on this one...
