Space Mountain - cosmetic question

I was looking through some pictures from yesteryear and saw the familiar space mountain ride vehicles from the good ol' days. While the Mountain has undergone many rennovations since, one of the most noticable cosmetic differences is the "nose" of the ride vehicles. They were candy apple red for a number of years, when and WHY were they painted the current baby blue color that matches the rest of the ride vehicle?

Did this change have anything to do with complaints that the ride vehicles appeared somewhat "questionable" in nature? (Probably the same people that complained that there are "hidden meanings" behind Disney art.)

:lookaroun Geez, I hope not!!
I do remember though that the red paint was peeling at one time. Maybe the kind of paint they choose needed too much maintence or something. Then perhaps the color changes was just to make it more uniform.
Just my thoughts...

I believe the BLUE paint can withstand the intense heat the vehicle experiences upon its re-entry back into the Earth's atmosphere much better than the RED paint.

Then again...perhaps ACE and GARY are in a better position to surmise about the car's "questionable" design specifications.........

I think it had to do with the entire theming and color scheme change of Tommorowland back in the early 90s. Before that, just about everything was white with red, while now it's softer colors more like Discoveryland in DLP.

I have no idea why they would change the color, but I wish they would change it back. It looked better red than the blue it is now. Actually, it looks more grey than blue.

When the rest of tomorrowland was renovated why was space mountain left white, when everything was paited more 'futureisticky' colours like Disneylands? I think it would look much better with colour than just plain white? Any thoughts?
