Space Bags

I have several Space Bags that I am using for this trip, but they need a vacuum to work properly. Of course I have that taken care of here at home, but what about at the resort? Has anyone ever asked a Mousekeeper for a vacuum for this purpose?

Can't really help with the vaccum question, but I've used space bags before (some that don't need a vacuum) and they do save space. But be careful because it still weighs the same, I had to pay for an overweight bag because these fooled me into putting more in my suitcase because I could fit it and I forgot to pay attention to weight.

I don't have to worry about that. I have a small hand scaled used in fishing. I use that on each suitcase as I get it packed to make sure it does not go over the 50 pound weight limit.

I've used the ones you roll up to force the air out, and they work ok, but I wouldn't count on having access to a vacuum. There is always a chance that the units they have are single piece, and useless.

Many of the vacuum space saver bags can also be hand-rolled. Check with the manufacturer (or just experiment with it at home).

An off-topic tip: skip using the bags, pack only half of the clothing you want to wear and launder it halfway through your stay. You won't have to worry about the weight of your bag, or that souvenirs won't fit into your luggage for the trip home. (I'm sure the OP has already thought of this and would prefer to use the bags, but I can't help it -- I'm a "travel light" evangelist!) ;)

Don't you need a vac with a hose? Not sure Mousekeeping has the hose.

I usually do laundry, doesn't take long and most are located by the pool. I throw it in, get something to eat/drink and enjoy the pool for an hour or two!

Sorry for a noobie question, but are those bags reusable?

As reusable as a sandwich baggie is. Eventually the seal will fail, but they should be good for a while.

The biggest issue I have with the space bags (particularly the self compress ones) is that they don't work real well on "normal" cotton clothes. Space bags work great for things like comforters, down vests, anything that has alot of air in it. Most cotton shirts/jeans etc that most people would pack for WDW don't have much air in them.

Join me, together we can rule the galaxy.
Our intention is to take our Eureka 41A portable vacuum to vacuum the extra air out of the space bags but we do drive which make weight much less a factor than physical space.

Yes. I have reused ours for the past 4 trips. :) But I have never been able to use a vacuum on them when leaving WDW.

Thanks much!

I just got this little gem off of eBay for $1.50. It is a small manual space bag pump (Leave the adult comments at the door. :cautious: ) and it works perfectly! I'd say that it works as well as the vacuum did. It is designed to fit over the small air bladder in the space bags.
