Southwest CC 60,000 point offer

Southwest currently has a promotion in which if you apply for their credit card and spend $2000 within the first 3 months you get 60,000 points. Has anyone seen this or done something like this in the past. Do the points have an expiration? Thinking of doing this and paying for most of our plane tickets with the points for our September 2018 trip.

I've done it. (Our sign-up points paid for airfare and hotel for a 2-night family trip to Washington, DC). Under the terms of our Southwest card, the points did NOT expire until one year after our last use of the card -- in other words, as long as we charged something to the card at least once every few months, the points would never expire. I can't say whether the terms are still the same under the current offer, so you'll want to look into it.
