The cheaper you get your ticket the less priority you have for seating. I had to travel to Vegas and back sitting apart from my boyfriend-turned-husband. There is no way I could do that with my 2yr old son!!!!! I'll never fly Southwest again.

The price has nothing to do with priority for seating, except for the Early Bird option. We never purchase that and are always in the late A or early B boarding section. You just have to sign in right at the 24 hour mark before your flight.

I think it's for today (June 2) and tomorrow, but saw has some ridiculous prices right now. Just booked our Sept flight from Chicago midway to mco for 70$ per person each way, which are prices I haven't seen in years, might be worth it for some to check out
That's why I fly southwest 4-6 Tines a year! They are always cheaper then anybody else! :)

OH YEAH!! got an email this am from SW. jumped on it and got r/t from Houston for $198, a savings of $156 over the" wanna get away fare" We also changed our hotel to SSR from BC to take advantage of free dining (first time for free dining as we usually do the room discount). Now to get through the long, hot summer in Texas.
See you in November, MICKEY !

you have to book by Thursday 6/4, travel 8/25 to 12/16 AND there are some blackout dates.

If you have a 2 yr old, you should board right after A group. By my recollection, this should put you front to mid plane with your choice of aisle or window, we have this luxury every time with my 2 year old

@Squigglove , nobody wants a 2YO sitting by themselves. Even if you walked on the plane the second before they closed the door, the flight attendants would bribe people with free drinks to get two seats together. This essentially happened to my family when our connecting flight into Chicago was late getting in.

This apparently varies from airport to airport, or maybe just depends on the staff. We have often taken advantage of this luxury. But on a return trip, we lined up to board after A group, and were told to get back in line and that the priority boarding privilege was just for the disabled.

Now that our kids are over 4 we avoid southwest. Sure it's cheap, but you have to factor in paying for the priority boarding. Otherwise, even if you get you seats at exactly 24 hours in advance, you have low B or highC at best.

I love SWA! We have never had a bad experience, and the pilots showed my then 6y/o grandson the cockpit (post 9/11). I also really like their safety record as well as cheap flights. I almost always chose priority seating, but the price has gone up. You also can buy priority seating anytime after you purchase your tix, and before your trip. For a discount airline I like them a lot better than Delta or JetBlue... IMHO
