the only legal versions i know of are from europe. and if you go on ebay there atleast 40 bucks, then you have to get a pal converter for 300 bucks. So my question is how did you get it bootleg and do you have to have a pal converter for the bootleg video?

I am a Digital Animator who does a lot of work for overseas clients, So i am fortunate enough to have a PAL converter. That is how I got my copy...got it from Europe and made it NTSC..but the quality takes a nose dive during the conversion process (compaired to if it was an ORIGINAL NTSC).

I bought a PAL version on e-bay last year. Had to play the auctions game a bit though. Finally, won one for $30. Took it to CNN in Atlanta and used their equipment to make a S-VHS copy. It's definietly not DVD quality (of course) but, it's as good as some of the other VHS tapes I own.

Not being released?

I have a boochie-ghetto copy of it, but I thought it wasn't being released because of a discrimination lawsuit...

I actually found a LaserDisc copy of it as a Japanese import at a music store about 7 years ago. Unlike the Europeans, the Japanese use the same NTSC video system we use so there was no problem with the video.

With the laserdisc ability to split the audio channels they had the japanese dubbed version on the left analog audio channel, and the original english on the right analog channel. Since the movie was not recorded in stereo, this is a non-issue anyway. The only place that has subtitles are the songs, since they are not dubbed on the Japanese audio track.

It's unfortunate that it isn't likely to be released in the US any time soon, as it's actually a wonderful movie.
