Well Sir Hiss here, been a while....

Well anyways, I have a computer now that is quite fast and it can possibly hold Song of the South. So does anyone know of a good version where I can get a hold of it? Thanks!

I don't know that... I am sorry but I heard that Disney may release it in the fall of 2006 for its 60th anniversary... but this could just be a rumor... someone on the forums told me that so... I dont know the truth. Im guessing not true since they pulled it once... but Im hoping. Does anyone know?

What exactly is that Barnum? And where?
Check with your Internet Provider. They probably have a way of letting you connect to newsgroups. Should be something in the set-up section of their website. You then configure Outlook Express (or other Newsreader software - I use XNews) which will then let you access the files other people post there.

There are other online companies that will link you to newsgroups for a fee, but not much point if your Internet Provider includes it in your membership.

I think everyone wants that movie! I hope we all see it. Just keep your fingers crossed that they dont have another uproar and pull it from the shelves. But, radiohost is usually up to date on disney news so Im hoping he's right!

In my opinion, this film will not be released in it's original version. It will probably see extensive editing as much of it's content is not considered politically correct at this point in time. A lot of the references in the movie are very racial and I don't think anyone at Disney would want to stir up a controversy (sp?) like that. The same was done for this past release of Roger Rabbit, the film underwent a lot of editing before it's DVD release and now the only way to see it in it's original widescreen glory is on LaserDisc (I believe), and those were replaced so quickly by DVD's that probably most people haven't heard of them. It'll be exciting to finally be able to own a version of Song of the South, since I love both Brer Rabbit and Brer Bear, but it'll just be changed......a bit.

Disney has released quite a few of their older cartoons that wouldn't be considered PC these days. However, they are pretty much only included in the "Treasures" limited edition collections, with some preface by Leonard Maltin about how they aren't PC now, so viewer beware.

So, if nothing else, it may turn up in one of the future collections. Leonard Maltin was interviewed recently about the Treasures series (http://www.ultimatedisney.com/leonardmaltin-interview.html), and Song of the South was one of the questions he was dodgy in answering.

The same site lists a rumored release of Song of the South in the fall of 2006, but doesn't attribute the source of the rumor. http://www.ultimatedisney.com/comingsoon.html

That's the trick about rumors...I've heard that Song of the South was going to be released for the past 5 years and still nothing. The only issue that I see and difference with the Treasures additions and Song of the South is that most of the pieces in the Treasures are pretty outdated..especially in the war toons, but Song of the South marks a time in history that many people still cling too and their is always some type of danger when addressing race. This film hasn't been released due to the still touchy subject of race, I would love to see it on DVD and will be first in line that day to get it, but for kids who don't know any better...I could see them picking up phrases and what nots that are not appropriate for this day and age and I think (my opinion) that that should be considered an issue upon it's release. I almost bought a bootleg DVD of it at a Toy/Comic Show, but the wack-o selling it had it at $35 and I wasn't willing to part with that kind of money for a version that was probably copied off of a VHS/Beta tape.....
