Something a little different...

In light of all the recent what bugs us most in WDW threads (I'm not flaming them, I've posted in each of them! ;)) How about we as a general group start going out of our way to do something nice in the parks...

For example:

When you are about to walk in front of someone taking a picture... instead of tapping our feet impatiently while they take the picture - offer to take the picture for them so the whole family can be in the shot...

When waiting in line for one of the characters, talk to the kids behind you that look like they have to p.ee b/c they're prancing with excitement... offer to let them go in front of you.. just this once, b/c you know how excited they are to visit Mickey! (extra kindness: offer your assistance to the parents to take the picture of the whole family...)

Make a CM's day by making the effort to tell them what a good job they're doing right after someone is rude to them... or (just b/c we know how many people are rude to them) tell every fast pass entrance CM "Hope you have a great day today!"

Finish it off by saying "just a little bit of Disney magic from WDWmagicers..." you never know - we might get a few new members out of the deal, and if nothing else - it spreads a good name about the parks and site!

What are your thoughts?

I'm very big about a little thing called please and thank you. It's respectful and I'm sure from working with the public all day, everyday, the CM's deserve it. We also always let little kids go in front of us, especially while watching parades and fireworks. It infuriates me when I see people push little kids out of the way so they can see better.

I was at Soarin' the other day for Magic Hours, and I got my head chewed out for something. They kept complaining and complaining and finally got in the line. Long story.

Anyway, after they finally went away, the next person said "I apologize for that and you handled it very well." Made me very happy to notice that just because there is one rude family, there are thousands more than are very nice.

I bet the family felt even worse when I noticed their wallet on the ground and returned it to them. Someone else could've easily found it and kept it. Karma points stocked up.

We always appreciate your comments, especially the thank yous. One of my other favorites is "Walt would be proud of you." I got that the same night and made my night. Even if you don't say such comments, just thank you and please will make life a tad more pleasant. Even tell the characters thank you after they pose for a photo and sign an autograph book.

Thank You for the thank yous!
(wow, that was corny)

See, niceness in action - (and for the record you are a saint for returning their wallet after all that - i do believe I would have sent it up to guest services... at MGM... just to be difficult) ;)

I always offer to take pictures for others....one of my favorite things to do in Disney parks! Usually you can spark a conversation and make a friend or two!

As far as adding to your list:

Get a fastpass for the heck of it, then pass it off to someone else.

Offer someone your seat on the bus or monorail. I know it seems silly, but I was just there a few weeks ago, and I noticed none of that going on. I always offered my seat to a child. I feel bad if they have to stand on the bus.

Great thread....I was starting to get annoyed with all the negativity on the boards. People should just be thankful they get to go to Disney, not rip it apart!

I love the seat thing, (for all those feminists out there... turn your head for a second) but it really irks me when men don't give up their seats... I guess living in Charleston, I'm surrounded by chivalry at its best... but I always feel bad for elderly or small children... I guess I'm spoiled on this one - my DH would NEVER take a seat before a lady or child... just isn't in him... :)

Great Ideas = Keep 'em coming!

I was there a few weeks ago and found one lost thing each day for three days. One day I found a Roxy wallet (with the tags still on it) but full of money and no ID...gave it to a Test Track CM who seemed like he could care less. Next day I found a ziploc bag full (and I mean full) of cash in the arcade at the Pop Century resort. This CM didn't seemed fazed by it, but I noticed a security officer came in and took it away a few minutes later. And the next day I found a memory card. I put it in my camera to see if there were pictures on it, and there were pictures of someones christmas, so I handed it in to a CM in Canada.
My friends think I'm nuts for handing everything in. I guess I should have left my name in case it wasn't claimed, but I was caught in the moment. I hope everything was returned properly.....what is disney's policy for lost items?

Great thread Jess!
We always offer to take pictures for people in the parks. It's kind of nice too when they offer to return the favor.
Last year I had brought a couple of mini-fans that I had bought at the local dollar store. While we were waiting at Big Thunder Mountain there were 2 kids in front of us on their first Disney trip. The line was long and the ride was experiencing "difficulties" , so the kids were getting a little restless (they were about 6 and 8). Anyway, I took out my fans and asked their mom if I could give them to the kids, and she was just so grateful. We saw again later that day, and they were still using their fans! My DH thinks I'm nuts, but it really made my day to help out with a little magic of my own! :animwink::animwink:

You guys are awsome! :) This is exactly what I'm talking about! (I'll share one of my magical experiences really quick...) I had a client of mine that was staying in WDW the same time as my DH & I - I don't really ever tell my clients of my vacation plans so they didn't know I was there... we happened to be staying at the same resort... they had saved and saved to stay at the All Star Music and I knew they weren't going to have alot of extra for stuff for their kids... so I sent up a basket of little things from the gift shop (suckers, stickers, snacks etc.) to their room, I didn't put my name on it - so they never knew who sent it - I just put "I'm so glad you came to visit me! Love, Mickey" on the tag... When they got back they came into my office and told me all about their magical gift and how special they felt! They were so touched... I never did tell them... It's a fun secret and made my trip that much more magical! :)

I did a similar thing for the 3 kids I take care of before their first Disney trip (the summer after their mom died). I had my mother (in FL) pick up postcards for each of them, and she put a little note to each to the effect of "I'm so happy that you're coming to see me" and signed by 3 different characters. They still talk about this!

we're alot alike you and I! :) I love doing this!

I always offer to take pics of families as well, because we have so many pics of ours with either me or my Wife missing.
I ALWAYS remember to thank the CM's. I also like to strike up conversations with them if they have a minute. (It's been a dream of mine to be a CM since my parents took me on my first trip to WDW in 1974. Maybe someday.....)

Already make it a practice to do those things. Another thing to add is to write and e-mail guest services when a cast member does a good thing. I did this back in May when a cast member (Matt) went way beyond the call of duty for my 4 year olds birthday. I ran into Matt a few weeks ago and he thanked me profusely for the letter. Disney really does read all the stuff we send them and it was nice to know that it does get back to the cast members.
