Some interesting changes ahead for the Disney princesses

Here is a very interesting article on the new Disney Princesses that will be sold by Hasbro starting January 1.

Some key points in the article:

- Mattel had been focusing on Barbie and did not pay enough attention to the Disney Princess line
- Mattel really messed up with something called "Ever After High"
- Hasbro stole the account from Mattel, and then coporate heads rolled
- The idea of marketing all the princesses together is relatively new and happened almost by accident
- There are "rules" for the pricesses, including that they cannot look at each other, and that each has a unique color. That is why Aurora now wears pink.
- The new line is not focused on "being pretty" but more on what each character does. The new direction is strength and independence.
- The dolls will no longer all look like Barbie, and there will be more focus on diversity, and not what they call "passive posing".

I think this will have a big impact in the parks, and will definitely be an improvement.

They're adding a new princess to the lineup.

I don't think this is going to affect a lick of anything in the parks, aside from the merchandise obviously being switched out.
Agreed, they recently revamped their look, wouldn't really apply to a face character with the exception of the color of Aurora's dress.

While Aurora generally wore blue in the movie, she did sometimes wear pink (Make it pink! Make it blue!). Once the Disney Princesses became a franchise and they got their distinct colors she has been generally wearing pink. However in the Christmas Parade, many of them wear winter dresses and Aurora's winter dress is purple. Just as Belle's is red, Cinderella's is white, etc.

The Princess lines sold in the parks and at Disney Store are made exclusively for these venues (and look the best), I believe this will bring change to products sold at other retailers, but not to Disney Parks and Disney Store produced merch.

Aurora always had pink dresses on in every doll I've seen.

More recent Aurora dolls and play sets have included the blue dress as an option. You can even buy it separately in the parks now.

While Aurora generally wore blue in the movie, she did sometimes wear pink (Make it pink! Make it blue!).

She only wears the pink dress for about 20 seconds total in the movie, and it's not a choice she makes. She was just as thrilled with the blue model.

Making pink Aurora everything is marketing assuming its customers are idiots who can't distinguish characters based on anything besides outift colours, film accuracy be damned.
