Solo trip booked...maybe

The backstory:

So I replied to a thread a week ago about a person on the fence about going to WDW solo. As expected, the responses to this person represented everything under the sun, from "hell yeah, you better go" to "there's no way I would be there without my family". My .02 were that I had a recent breakup and I didn't think I could do it. Never really considered it until I was reading the thread. I said that if I were there solo without my current "baggage" the only part of the trip that would make me iffy would be dining alone at TS's as it would just seem a bit weird at WDW.

What happened next:

As if some ironic higher power was watching/listening, I received a personal pincode in my email. Now usually when you get these you start doing an offensive little dance in the privacy of your own home, but given all that has happened to me as of late I was like "damn, why am I getting this now?". The real crusher was a 2 week window on the code. The code I received was the 20/25/30% off for in the early part of 2014 which is when I traditionally visit my home [WDW]. Not knowing what my mental health will look like in 6 months but knowing I likely will not get another offer like this I pulled the trigger. 8 nights solo at AKL [a first- my usual home is well...I'll give you one guess]. I figured I can always cancel if I don't feel up to it in the fall.

Now having said all that, this is my question to my "friends":

When I booked it, the CM told me my price and put in the dining plan with the package. I normally do not do the DP and would prefer not to. The CM said its part of the deal and the code. Can I call back and take this off you think? I want room + tickets, but I prefer to do my own dining thing. I was all in for the room, tickets (PHer), and DP for $2700. I thought it was a deal because the same package at CSR was only $350 less. I figured $350 to bump up to AKL for 8 nights? Why not, right? Well truthfully I feel like I betrayed my beloved CSR- having been there 6-7x through the years. Anyway, its a pricey ordeal and chopping the DP would serve me well. Let me know if anyone has any experience here. Sorry if this was too long for such a stupid question.

Not a stupid question.;)
I wouldn't do the DDP if I went solo. I'm not sure I'd like eating at a Table Service restaurant by myself. Now riding rides, I have no problem with.:joyfull: I would also opt to stay at a Deluxe if by myself. I don't think I'd Park Hop either as I would take things at a more leisurely pace.:)

You could try calling and asking another CM - sometimes you get a different answer. I'd just get a TA. They'll know for sure.

If you don't want the dining package because you don't want to eat alone in restaurants, you might be able to switch to a fast food dining plan (I think it's called "quick service" but am not sure.)

I totally get not wanting to eat alone n WDW. I used to travel for work and never had a problem eating alone in restaurants or hotels, but it's just different at WDW. I don't eat alone there, either...which is why I was always dragging people to RFC to have breakfast with me, lol.

Some people will act like there is something wrong with you if you don't wish to dine solo at WDW - like you lack confidence or whatever - but I get it. You're not alone there. :)

Have a great trip!

I did a 7 day solo trip last December on the DP. Only once did I feel funny during a TS meal, so that wasn't a problem for me. What I found to be an issue with the DP was you have order so much to get your money out of it. I'm planning another solo trip this December, skipping the DP and getting a Disney gift card to prepay my meals before I go. That way my trip is still paid for before I go and I'll have more flexibility with meal choices. I'm also planning to take a day to go shopping offsite at the outlet malls and plan to pick up something ( UNOs pizza? ) on my way back. Depends on how I'm going...taxi, bus or car.

Yeah, my issue with the DP is the money/how much food do I have to eat to make it worth my while factor. Being I love a big breakfast and I'm at the AKL, my guess is most mornings I will be at Boma. Well, there goes the one table service for the day on a meal that is "not that much". All thats left is my QS's. Well if you think I'm going to eat nothing but Casey's and the Electric Umbrella for the rest of my meals, you got another thing coming. I'm a dining snob to be sure. So I will need San Angel, Citricos, etc. The thing about eating alone is just a feeling that I been thinking about now that I am seriously looking a solo trip. I'm actually a loner by nature but eating a TS dinner alone at a park is something I never envisioned. I'm sure in the end I will be fine. I ate at the Maya grill back when it had breakfast buffet every morning alone without a problem when we went on a big family trip back in '05. And I spent plenty of time solo during that trip as my family (despite going for 10 days) acts like the place is going to shut down permanently on any given day and goes from open to close. I need my afternoon siesta. A little nap, a little swim, and then back to a park for diner and some night rides. Am I right?
