Soccer referee decides that a red card just doesn't have the impact it once had...

When I read the article early this morning, I was (once again) in disbelief of how far sportsmanship and respect for game officials have sunk. Since the ref needed to carry a gun with him for protection infers that he feared for his well being while performing his job. We all disagree with some calls sometimes but geez!

I could banter on and on about some of the experiences I've had when I coached Little League for five years but that would just start that twitch I had around my face..............

While I'm not justifying WHY the official was carrying a gun, especially on the field, the article does go on and say this:

South Africa has one of the world's highest murder rates with an alarming 47.4 murders per 100,000 people, or eight times the figure for the United States.

So, maybe the gun was for protection. It still in no way justifies killing the visiting coach who questioned a call.

I agree with you 100% on this.
