Hi... Heading to WDW in a week and bringing my 75 yr old Mom along for trip. She is afraid of heights and I'm trying to convince her to ride Soarin'.

Can someone tell which row number is the row closest to the ground? And then how high up is that row? 10 feet? 15 feet?

Thanks!

Do you really think it is a good idea to try and convince a 75 year old that is afraid of heights to ride soarin'? I would be afraid she might have a heart attack and that would kind of take the magic out of the trip.

You are not looking at the ground you have the feeling of being suspended a hundred or more feet in the air no matter which row you are in. Not a good idea (or any fun) for someone who is afraid of heights. Ride Living with the Land instead and do the behind the seeds tour.

This! Which row you sit in is really irrelevant since you can't see the floor, but the feeling of being high up may be a problem for someone who is afraid of heights.

If you do have her go on the ride, and you are in the 3rd row, try to go in Sections A or C by the end. The screen curves there and her view of the attraction will not be totally complete. That could help her feel like she's not so high up. If it really gets to be too much, she can also look up and at least see the feet & legs of the people above her dangling so she can focus on something else besides the screen.

Good Grief!!! Don't try to get someone who is afraid of heights to ride Soaring just because YOU want her to!!! I am afraid of heights and Soaring type rides don't usually bother me. BUT Soaring does affect me. I hold on for dear life and wish I hadn't done it. I always feel like I'm going to fall, and honestly don't have a good ride at all. I am also in my 60's, and I'm never riding that ride again. Just not worth it. Please have mercy on your Mother and don't encourage her to ride. It's not the height of the row, it's the way the screen effect makes you feel like you are soaring through the sky HIGH above the earth. No, No, No, from another Mom:)

I am afraid of heights and motion bothers me too so I haven't been on Soarin' and I don't plan to ever ride it. While it sounds awesome I would feel sick after riding and it would mess with me for the rest of the day. Please don't make her ride it. It isn't worth it.
Heck, I rode Peter Pan and was scared to fly around the scenes below. I am sure I was white as a ghost when we got out of that ride. I was proud of myself for doing it and I would do it again but that still has not ended my fear.
Tower of Terror and Soarin' no way!!

A fear of heights can vary greatly between one person and the next. Or even with circumstances. Only your Mom would know for sure if she can handle it. Maybe check out a ride video on YouTube for a bit of perspective.

That being said, my Mom (77 for our trip this Spring) doesn't like to be more than 6 inches off the ground but she rides Soarin' -- although she closes her eyes during "take off" and "landing". And she LOVES Peter Pan's Flight. Go figure. BTMRR, on the other hand, one and done.

Don't worry just tell the Castmember that is loading you for the ride and they will place you in the right spot. I always do that as I am a solo traveler and like to try to get the best seat if possible for whatever attraction I am going on. I just nicely ask a Castmember and they might make me wait a cycle or two but I will get what I asked for.

Calm down everybody... I'm smart enough not to put my mother on anything I didn't think she can handle. Now knowing the ride heights, she can make an informed decision if she thinks she can handle it. After all, she planning on riding Big Thunder Mtn and possibly Everest (her plans, mind you)... And just because she's 75 doesn't mean she's knocking on death's door.
