So, You Want to be an Imagineer Season 13: "Get a Clue" announcement thread

Throughout 12 seasons from 2006-2012, the "So, You Want to be an Imagineer" competition ran on VisionsFantastic has gained a legacy as one of the most sucessful and long running games of this type on the internet. After a long hiatus, in the summer of 2016 the game you know and love is finally returning with a brand new twist...

So, You Want to be an Imagineer
Season 13: "Get a Clue"
Starting in June of 2016, the ultimate Armchair Imagineering competition returns with a KILLER of a twist. 15 to 20 contestants will enter a hypothetical haunted mansion and engage in the world's first Imagineering Murder Mystery.

Each team of five will have one player acting as a killer. The killers will be able to work together to "murder" members of the cast. Once someone is murdered they will be sent to the Trophy Room...A Redemption Island style challenge where only the most determined will get back in the game.

Multiple murders will happen over the course of the season, creating a unique dynamic where players will have to work side by side with each other knowing there's a trader in their midst. The goal of most of the cast will be surviving the competition and trying to figure out who the killers are and putting an end to them. The goal of the killers is simple...Don't get caught!

The general dynamic of SYWTBAI will remain in tact. Each round three to four teams of five will design different projects of the same theme. Every round each team must select a project leader to serve as the guiding force for the round. You can only be project leader once until either everyone on your team has done so or there's a team swap.

The loosing team's project leader must nominate one person for elimination. The rest of the team will then vote between the project leader (taking partial responsibility for the loss) and the nominee on who gets eliminated and sent to the Trophy Room along with the murder victims.

The winning team will assign a Power of MVP to the most valued contributor that round. This person will be safe from being nominated the following round should the team loose.

Finally, the key to "Walt's Vault" will be passed around hot potato style between different teams. Walt's Vault is a Pandora's Box of different twists. Some will have a positive effect, others a negative effect. It is up to the keyholder to decide rather or not to open the vault each round.

With the familiar elements of So, You Want to be an Imagineer team based gameplay mixed with the template of a murder mystery and the twist of the killers, season 13 promises to be a frightful good time!

Wow! I'm so excited! When in June will this begin?

I'm going to kind of play it by ear, but I definitely want to start after everyone's had a chance to get finals and school out of the way so we have a clear three months. I'm thinking perhaps the third week of June would be an ideal target for the time being...
Great! Right when finals are happening! :banghead: Oh well, I'm excited anyway. :p It'll still be fun. Also, is this going to conflict with SA? Sorry for all of the questions. :D

I'm completely willing to be flexible with SA, but I figured since JDM hasn't been active in months and the fact the season three of SA wasn't the best received I think having this be the big summer competition would be a great change of pace for everyone. Really not trying to step on anyone's toes. Perhaps we could run a shorter month-long SA season either before or after...

You guys have waited a full year to run this competition on wdwmagic. And even further, essentially it's been almost 4 years since Season 12.

You're not stepping on any toes. If SA runs again, we've had two comps overlap before without any issue.

I'm really excited for the format and to play in this legendary comp!

I completely agree. Even if SA does indeed happen, it should be nice to see a new and exciting competition on these boards. :)

I'm going to have a poll in May to see which week in June would be best to start. I want the game to end late August to early September at the absolute latest.
Cool!

I just glanced at the upcoming calendar and probably Friday June 24 (or sometime that weekend) might be the best time to start because I have a test I have to take the weekend before and most northeast schools let out that week...so that may be good!

That sounds like a good plan.

One thing I forgot to stress in the opening post is the importance that research has in how well you do in projects. We use a lot of different IPs to theme the projects around with the point being to let different people shine in different subject matter that they excel in. Based on the teaser trailer the following can be confirmed projects.

-The Walking Dead
-Breaking Bad
-Steven Universe
-Gravity Falls
-NickToons
-Alien Encounter
-Halloween Horror Nights
-Star Wars Villains

Considering I've never seen some of those I guess ...let the research begin!...:p
