So my 85 year old gran is coming to WDW

Hi everyone,

We are off to Florida in 4 weeks time for the 15th time! My gran is coming with us next year who is 85 years old. She will most likely have a wheelchair for the parks and is highly unlikely to go on any of the rides.

Does anyone know if other than adult and children prices they do special rates for the older generation? We have all of our tickets etc now, but when my dad enquired he was told that they didnn't, and I just wondered if this was entirely accurate or not? It does seem a little much for her to be paying the same price as the rest of us when she won't be having the same experience as we will.

Unfortunately no. There is lower pricing for those ages 9-3 and 2 and under are free, but everyone else pays the adult price.

Places like Disney, US/IOA and the movies do not charge less for a kids ticket because they get less of an experience. They do it because it is shown to be an effective marketing tool to get the adults to go.

My best advice is to keep a close eye on her, wheelchair or not. It will still be blazing hot in 4 weeks. If you're not from Florida or any other place that it is hot be careful. The heat can get to young children and the elderly very quickly. Lots of fluids and have some snacks handy for any fatigue or sugar drops if she is diabetic.

That's why we never went when my wife was pregnant. She couldn't stand the idea of paying full price and not ride anything. Those under 3 are free because they can't ride or do a whole lot and honestly after a few hours they get cranky and want to take a nap. Parents bring them thinking the kid will enjoy it but not so much. We've taken my 2.5 year old already a few times but we have older kids and I am the biggest kid of them all. I've been referred to as Peter Pan by my wife and an ex girlfriend or two.

I take my mother every year and she is 88 this year. She is in good physical shape for her age. She walks around the parks all day and we just stop a lot to rest and cool off, maybe people watch. You would be surprised how many rides she can go on that are very tame. She even has an annual pass as we go a few times a year being we live in Florida. Hope all enjoy your time together making memories!

I've been to at least one amusement park that is POP (pay one price) but they have a low priced non-rider admission. They really ought to have that at WDW, for older people who want to be their with their grandkids, etc. but have no intention of riding anything.

Nope, no discounts.

It will not be fun to sit in a wheelchair all day, in the ungodly heat and humidity, waiting for people who are riding rides at WDW and listening to strangers' children have temper tantrums.

My goodness.

Be prepared for this woman to change her mind about what she wants to do while she's there!

Thanks for all your replies. Gran has been several times before and doesn't go on any of the rides. I think she just likes being with all the family and seeing the parks - being somewhere different from home. So she knows all about having plenty of fluids and snacks. She now has problems with her knees and hips so park wise she doesn't really have any other choice than to have the wheelchair.

But I do agree with jkl2000 it would be good to have different options for those who don't ride. I know people vary in capabilities at any age, and gran has paid and is happy to pay the figure she has done, but it does seem a bit over priced for what she would actually be doing in the park compared to many other guests.
