but my husband is doing his "Disney again?" (even thought we have never been to WDW) so I want to make sure the hotel is going to be great too. We have Poly, Wilderness, GF and Contem but our teenager thinks Savannah view at AKL is something dad would really enjoy but it doesn't seem like the best choice for first timers due to transportation. So does anyone have any thoughts on AKL and the busses? Thanks!!

The transportation "problems" of AKL are vastly exaggerated unless you plan on spending a significant majority of your time at MK. For example, AKL is closer to both Epcot and DHS than Wilderness Lodge is, and Wilderness Lodge shares a bus.

The bus situation at AKL is, IMO, no worse than any other resort. In some cases its better! Also, the bus service at WL, IMO, is much worse then that of AKL. I've stayed at AKL during Christmas week and mid September and NEVER experienced excessive waits or transportation times.

I worded that incorrectly, I wasn't actually thinking of it being a problem, more like a nuisance if we want to get to a park early for ADR breakfasts or how quick we can get back to our room if one in the group wants to(me, my husband, our 17yr old son and 13yr old niece. They are not into characters but neither have ever been so if my husband and I want to go back to the resort and the kids choose to stay, how easy for them to get back and vice versa. Thanks!

The monorail resorts are definitely an asset when getting to and from Magic Kingdom. But they're no better (and often worse because they share buses) when getting to and from DAK, DHS, or Epcot.

Based just on the ages and genders of your travel party, I'd say DAK, WL, Contemporary, or Polynesian. GF is very feminine and very formal and is best for older couples or little girls who are into tea parties and the like.

I am thinking of the savanna villas. My only concern is the time it takes to go to and from since we are Norcal and Disneyland is the place we always stay and husband likes the quick back to the room escape but I also want to be close enough that the kids can do their own thing

17 and 13? I wouldn't hesitate to let the do their own thing no matter where you stay.

To be clear, there's no "quick back to the room escape" for any of the resorts compared to what you're used to in California.

Thanks for the info! Yeah they are good kids so I don't mind where they go on their own in the park(besides, my teenager and I are night owls and my husband is not so we will be staying in the parks until late. LOL
