Before Disney hit the jackpot with Pirates of the Caribbean, they produced a lot of other ride-based movies. Unfortunately, they were all terrible and were promptly forgotten.

But there's one that I just discovered by accident. I knew about the horrible Steve Guttenberg Tower of Terror movie (ToT is not cursed by the Twilight Zone, because that would cost Disney $$$. So they changed it to be an old witch who poisoned a birthday cake or something) and I think EVERYONE knows about the abomination that happened to the Haunted Mansion. (no, not the Tangled Restrooms. Those came later and there's less excrement involved)

But nothing could prepare me for....

I agree with you about the Haunted Mansion and especially the Mr. Toad's Wild Ride movie. Both of them are awful! I do have to say, I adore the Tower of Terror movie with Steve Guttenberg. It's fun. :)

When I clicked the link, the description of the movie made me laugh. From the link:

"Mole's underground home is bought by the Weasels from wealthy landowner Mr. Toad and Mole is thrown out. He and Rat start to fight to get his home back from evil Weasels."

Sounds awfully familiar...

Of course the problem with the ToT film is that it Exsists...I can understand why the Family of Rod Seriling refused to even help out on the idea Granted they would have to pay royalties and the rights to use it as a film then the title would be The Twilight Zone Presents: Disney's Tower of Terror...

Also...If they never got the rights to the Twilight Zone franchise....The Plot of the movie would be the ride........Think about it..

But, going back to the OP they changed it to Mr. Toads wild ride to tie it in with the the ride. The original UK release was....

I'm guessing this one was direct to video with no advertising behind it. I knew there was the old cartoon with Mr. Toad in some of it, but this is the first I've heard of this movie that the OP linked to. Really interesting find though.

Mission to Mars also was 'based' on a Disney ride, right?

I don't think these movies "ruin" anything about the rides. I for one enjoy the ToT and MH movies sure its not the best representation of the rides but it gives more opportunity to look at the story in a different way and I know a lot of people who like the films. I see your point but I don't think its really an issue.

Either that or the could tactfully borrow a few elements from The Shining, The Haunting, or Event Horizon.

I mean....Disney can be pretty darn gruesome at times.

*blackbeard: yes, he blends!

I think elevator doors opening to a river of blood wouldn't be much of a problem for them.

Until I came to this board, I had no idea MS was based on a movie. I learn new things all the time around here. :)

Haunted Mansion is the only one of the ride movies I've seen - well, I saw part of it. It wasn't good. Even the kids I was with didn't like it, so we took it out and watched Jumanji instead. They liked Jumanji so much that I was off the hook for HM, lol.

Hmmm... except I have overheard the occasional guest not want to ride the Haunted Mansion because they assume it was based on the horrible movie (believe it or not), and many first-time guests frequently assume POTC is based on the movie series as well, which doesn't do justice to that attraction's history IMO. So I suppose you could say that occasionally a movie's reputation will taint an attraction's image.

Which part? Because getting Gary Sinise to host Mission Space, where you are training for a mission to Mars, is the wrong way of not admitting it.

Well, if you think about it...
  • Mission To Mars = Mission Space
  • Some props reflect the movie..
The attraction queue contains several items and commemorative plaques from past, present and fictional future space missions. Among the items on display are props from the 2000 film Mission to Mars, including the rotating "gravity wheel" from the predecessor X-1 spacecraft, a model of which hangs from the ceiling, and a replica of a NASA moon rover from the Apollo program.

  • And Gary Sinse was in the film.

Yeah that's true. It's just frustrating to me as someone who enjoys some of these movies when people don't know that the rides weren't based off them. It amazes me how little some people know before going to the parks. Some don't even bother trying to learn anything before to maximize their trip and it makes me realize why they even went in the first place and if they even care enough.

You do realize that this version of "The Wind in the Willows" movie was essentially a Monty Python movie, not a Disney movie, don't you?

Lady Violet Crawley did crack a quip, something about Toad from Toad Hall on Downtown Abbey one episode.

Cracks me up.

Love you Dame Maggie!

I don't think Mission to Mars was equal to Mission: Space. I actually think it goes back to the old Mission to Mars that used to be in MK. In tomorrowland where I think Stitch now is. You were sitting in a theater that was supposed to be a rocket ship and on the floor was a movie screen showing liftoff and all. I think it was a precursor to motion simulators.
