Ski Disney

There was a plan to build one at a mega resort being developed on 192 and 535. Not sure if it is still in the works or not.

It seems like a lot of work and potential liability. I like the idea of a ski themed resort, but for a true lift and ski experience it be hard to pull it off the right way in Florida. Need a place to rent ski's and equipment. Need to have a beginners ski and safety classes for a lot of people (probably including me). Half the day would be spent preparing. Can you imagine what it would be like watching a Brazilian tour group coming down the faux mountain?

There would need to be quadruple the kiddie slopes (which will be really tame) to the (meaning 1) half way decent adult trail. I'm sure it would be a novelty some would try once (especially the FL residents).

I'd rather see Disney invest in Colorado (Vail or Breckenridge) and create a true Disney Lodge revolving around a real mountain and real snow.

''The Country Bear Jamboree was originally intended by Walt to be placed at Disney's Mineral King Ski Resort which he was trying to build in the mid 1960s. Walt knew he wanted some sort of show to provide entertainment to the guests at the resort, and he knew he wanted the show to feature some sort of bear band.''

Walt Disney planned on building one, but realized Ski resorts were rarely profitable so scrapped it.

Mineral King was Still being developed when Walt Disney died and was eventually cancelled due to opposition from environmental groups, most notably the Sierra Club.

I took a design firm tour of a new (and very large) sports complex north of Atlanta-
It was mentioned that the next phase of the buildout would include a ski slope... sooo cool!

Not if they ever went to NJ and saw the total financial disaster that Project Xanadu / American Dream / whatever the next sucker is calling it.. Seriously, they have been trying to built this thing next to Giants Stadium for almost a decade now, and people keep going bankrupt with it.

As Boomer and Carton (well, mostly Carton) often say, fixing Xanadu is easy: Build a casino along with it.

It really is a shame they'd likely never develop there own ski resort as that could be a really cool experience especially to bring Disney to New England or the intermountain west. Develop a nice themed village around the resort that can be used for summer and winter activities. The main competitor would likely be Vail since they've started a massive skiing empire that keeps growing.

Never going to happen though, as Atlantic City would be up in arms over it. They loose enough from the PA casinos as it is. I'm sure Seaucus would not be too happy either. Can you imagine the traffic nightmare Rt 3 and the tunnel would be. I'm just glad I no longer live near that area, or have to drive through it anymore (I made the move from Bergen to Morris county about 7 years ago)

Never mind having to find parking for a Jets/Giants game...It was a disaster from the beginning, wrong place, wrong time (malls are dying). Politicians were the ONLY ones that are going to make $$$ on this travesty.
