Sit down meals for DDP

Do most Sit Down places offer TO GO. So if we want to use our DDP points but don't want to waste the 30 minutes waiting for out table, and another 90 to eat, can we just get the food to-go and eat them at the counter service tables. Places like 50's prime / Ohana / Alfredos can take 2+ hour from arrival to leaving, and with kids, that can be a LONG time. So can we use the points and get drinks, aps, meal, and dessert to-go and eat at our leisure? It would actually save Disney from playing for the tip part of the meal. I was thinking of ordering, hitting an attraction, then picking up. Would they do this?

As far as your question, I really have no idea it wouldn't be OK, but I wouldn't exactly tell them what you were doing either. You would probably have to go in, order in person, have them swipe the card etc, then just come back in 30+ mins, etc.

I honestly don't see why not although they (someone at the restaurant but I don't know who) would probably still receive the tip anyway.

Thanks for the Bump Info!

Jimbo,

I find that an important aspect of Disney World is the food. You are missing out a great deal if you're not going to sit in the restaurants! Plus you need to relax and get some energy from walking all day anyway. And it sounds like a big hassle to go and get take out. Imagine getting a nice filet mignon in a paper box? It sounds like you're on the dining plan, it might not be worth it to get if you're planning to do that.

I'm not sure if you be able to take it to go but why not go to an early dinner or lunch and avoid the crowds during peak time? I dunno if it'll work but it might be an idea.

Currently there is no system in place to allow a Guest to simply walk-up and place a complete to-go order at a Theme Park Table Service Restaurant as you propose, with or without the dine plan. These locations will simply direct you to a counter service location.

Resort Table Service locations will simply direct you to use room service if you are staying at that Resort.

Any table service restaurant will however be happy to box up any unfinished portion of your meal, but for health and safety reasons, they will not be able to box an entire meal to go.

If you don't get to use all of your table service entitlements at table service locations, once you have depleted all of your counter service entitlements you will be allowed to use your extra table service entitlements at counter service locations if you choose. Each table service entitlement would then count the same as 1 counter service entitlement.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

No need to be a smart###, it's free dining, and we have kids, they get tired.

She wasn't, and I agree with her opinion of that you will be missing out and it's good to take a little time to relax in the a/c for dinner. She offered an alternative by suggesting eating your sit down meal as a late lunch or early dinner. And how would we know you are going when the dining plan was free, you didn't mention it in your OP, mind readers we are not.

The we have kids and they get tired line, I'm tired of hearing. Here's a thought, don't be a park commando and let the kids sleep in a morning or two and then start your day, or just plan the day to be a little lighter and not run to everything, stop and smell the roses. My 4 year old niece was perfectly fine last year when we went to a sit dinner every night and our dinners averaged 1 1/2 hrs., it was a good time to sit and talk about the things we had done during the day, how we enjoyed them and what we were going to do after dinner. We all had a chance to decompress at dinner which is very important IMO. We also didn't get her out of bed at the crack of dawn, we waited for her to wake up which was about 9a most mornings, it is important to get rest when you are walking and doing so much at WDW.

Chill.

This is a discussion thread. The following is to all interested in reading, not just the original poster.

To answer the question about Take Out at Table service, it will likely take longer than you want to spend in getting the food if the idea is fast service.
Take Out is not their highest priority, that's why it's called Table Service and is what they will spend more time on. Something about teaching a pig to sing comes to mind.
If interested in anything else regarding the title of this post, "Chill.", read on. If not, stop reading here and don't post anything suggesting anything unnecessarily rude.
That said...
The subject of the thread is Sit Down Meals for DDP and enjoying them is perfectly within the realm of a reasonable response.

WDW can be hot. It can be crowded. It can also be very humid.
It can be all of the above at the same time.:p
It's supposed to be a vacation.
Believe me, we also want to see/do as much as possible and not waste unnecessary time, especially if you've ever taken the time to figure out how much it costs per hour just to be in any of the Disney parks if you're not an annual pass holder:eek:.

On our last trip, with two small kids, we spent 7 nights/8 days and each day was full. Almost every day, we were on the first bus from Pop Century and most nights we didn't get back to the room until after 10 pm, sometimes past 11.
Even with that, get this:
We missed a full 1/2 of World Showcase at Epcot, Buzz Lightyear Spin, Hall of Presidents, Grand Prix(Autopia). We did go to Blizzard beach for 1/2 a day, but we only were able to spend about 2 hrs. in all of Downtown Disney.
Then again, we did other things 2 and 3 times, because we could.

Our kids don't need naps in the middle of the day at all, just FYI.

For part of the trip, my head was exploding inside because of all that wasn't being done. I kept it to myself, though.
But, we were on the Dining Plan (free :D).
We ate well and leasurely. Never underestimate a relaxed meal in nice surroundings (with A/C:D) while doing all that you're doing.
The dining plan offers that without the need to worry about the cost of the meal. To me, that's vacation, right there.

With all that, we missed Illuminations due to an unnecessarily lengthy meal (slow server) at LeCellier. Now, as parents, we were disappointed. But, we never told the kids about the show. They saw Wishes, Fantasmic, Spectromagic, and a host of other shows during the rest of the trip.
We could have very easily been upset, since we had no other opportunity to get back for Illuminations. But, dinner was great. It was comfortable.
Instead, due to the late meal, we ended up being some of the very last guests at Epcot and were able to experience a deserted Epcot, something some here have done, and something many people will never experience. It was really nice.

There were some other shows missed as well. That's OK. We enjoyed what we did see.
Not a week has gone by since our trip last October (the kids' first and only trip to WDW so far) where there hasn't been some reference by them to WDW.
"Remember when we did ________" or "Wasn't it cool at Disney when we saw______"
They don't ask when we're going back to see the stuff we missed because they saw how big the place was and we also didn't really tell them about what we didn't see.
We do have the WDW Explorer CD that mentions attractions not seen. They play with it. They know there's other stuff to be seen. They also know WDW changes.
We have multiple books collected by me over the years about WDW they are free to look at whenever they want.
They see the TV specials on Discovery, Travel, and Food. All of those mention things we didn't do.

Unless you're planning to spend a solid two weeks ($$$$) at WDW, there's no way you're going to be able to do everything and enjoy it. The key there is enjoy it.
For us, this means another trip in the future (maybe distant, maybe not) to catch up on what we missed and also redo some favorites.

It was said earlier in this thread to stop and smell the roses.

The fact that we went on Space Mountain 3 times in a row toward the end of a night meant that we didn't do some other things, but we all had fun.
At first, the littlest one was a little nervous. By the third time, she sat in the front of the front car and loved it.
That's what we remember most as a family about Space Mountain. Nice roses to smell.

Why are you going to WDW? For fun, right? Over the years, they've made the place so freaking huge compared to the mid-70's, it's not possible to do it all unless you've got a lot of time on your hands and a really fat wallet.

With all of that in mind, enjoy WDW. If you're on the Dining Plan, great. If you're on the Free Dining Plan, even better. For us, the free dining plan was the scale tipper in being able to afford to go.

Enjoy the time with your kids. It goes very fast. Very fast. Did I mention it goes fast? Oh yeah, it doesn't come back. Even if you go with them again, the time spent at that age won't come back, and that goes for both of you, kids and adults.
And the time they spend with you there is just as valuable to them. Make it special.
As much as it can be stressful to try and not waste valuable time at WDW, there are many others who would very happily trade places with you.

This is not just to the original poster of the thread.

On our trips -- we have 3 goals for a 10 day trip.

Small World
Little Mermaid
Figment

That's it.

If we don't hit another attraction -- the vacation is still a success!

I just asked if since the sit down was part of the dining -- if we could get it take-out if the kids were too tired to make the reservation. It's not to "hit" more rides-- or walk more steps in the day. I was just wondering --- since the food is there for us -- if we could take it to go or not. If not -- we'll make sure the kids aren't too tired -- and re-make reservations. We don't push the kids, that's why we wouldn't force them to sit in a resturaunt for 90-120 minutes if they are tired, that sounds like a much more of a prick thing to do than ask if you can get take-out. We spent 2 hrs in Melrose last year and it wasn't any fun... and would be better to just take the food to-go and my wife and I can eat in the car. It is our food after all. We did pay for it. As for your point of view.... Judge not --

SEE -- NOTHING ABOUT HITTING RIDES --

read please first. If kids are tired -- should they be forced to sit and eat for 2 hrs? NO! We had a daughter sleep through a few meals last year.. and why not just take the food home and eat at her leisure. Remember DDP -- you don't use -- you lose -- and reservations are a B#&%$ to come by last minute.

better than throwing it away because I can't eat it. It is included in my PKG -- and we ADJUST to our kids. We aren't tyranical parents. Again eating in the car or on a bench doesn't hurt "my" feelings, sorry if it does yours.

I'll also tell my kids to be more responsible with their nap times -- geez folks - -these trips aren't about me -- it's about them. I'd eat hot dogs all week if it makes them happy, but if i have steak that I have paid for and have the coice between that and PAY ON TOP OF THAT for a chicken finger basket -- I'll take the steak-- that's my question -- nothing more.
