signature restaurant

My son, who is now a teen, was about that old on his first trip to WDW.

We ate at a three signature restaurants. He still remembers the Brown Derby where he had chicken noodle soup with Mickey pasta and a hot dog.

We also ate at the Yachtsman where he remembers the dessert, a white chocolate puzzle you could put together, they also had 3 favors of topping you could paint on, chocolate, strawberry and I think butterscotch.

The last was the California Grill, he still talks about the view during dinner and watching wishes from the roof of the Contemporary. In fact he picks the California Grill to eat at every trip since the first.

I hope this helps.

5 years old makes a big difference, I think you would be fine at most of them. California Grill is probably the coolest in the eyes of a kiddo since you can see Magic Kingdom. We have had great signature experiences with the kids, the only one where we actually felt uncomfortable was Citricos. There are always diners that will give you sideways glances if your child is making any noise at all but Citricos was the only one for us that our server was not the most accommodating.

We went on a couple trips on the deluxe dining plan and would hit a few sigs without much event. We just decided that we would downgrade in dining until they are all 5 and up. So we will be back to the fabulous dining in a few years.

We always loved going to Artists Pointe in the WL when we were younger. They have coloring for the kids as well as those Mickey chocolate puzzles that you said he had a Yachtmans. You can also see the light parade over the Seven Seas Lagoon from the lookout if you plan it right. That'd be my best advice if you want to go for something different. If not, any of the ones he seemed to enjoy are always good to take him back!

Thanks you for your input. We have narrowed it down to California Grill or the Yachtsmen. California grill we haven't eaten at before but would love to go to see the Magic Kingdom view and Yachtsmen we ate at 3 years ago but we didn't take our son on that trip which we like but didn't see why it was a signature restaurant.

My son enjoyed Flying Fish, but he's kinda a "mini foodie" never has he eaten off a kid menu. mom has taught him well!

Agreed on FF, my youngest is 22 now but we have taken them to FF since they were 10 and they loved it, Cali Grill as well. Good job on raising a young foodie! :king:
