Sid Caesar, the revered pioneer television comedian whose own maniacal comet burned him out for 20 years, died Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 91.

His death was confirmed by his long-time friend and collaborator Carl Reiner. No cause was given.

Caesar became an icon throughout the television comedy world, a godfather of sketch comedy shows up to “Saturday Night Live.”

Shirley Temple, Ralph Waite, and now Sid Caesar; all in about a week. All people who brought different styles to their roles, but all honorable and clean overall.

I did not know much about Sid other than his humor, but he seemed to enjoy it and was always fun. He was also one of those from the groups of Hollywood comic elite (Lucille Ball, Jonathan Winters, George Burns, Milton Berle, Carl Reiner) who would occasionally show up on the Tonight show and laugh it up with Johnny Carson. Miss those days. You could always tell that those people knew each other, and you felt like you were at a "guitar pull" like musicians have in a garage, but only for comedians.
