Short Trip report

 My husband and I just returned from a short 5 day trip without our kids, which is a first. We opted not to use the magical express because of some the reviews I read before we left. We rented a car instead. We checked in at the Pop Century and some of the people on our flight arrived after we did off the magical express bus (we had to wait in line for our rental car and pick up our bags), reservations were slightly messed up but easily fixed. We did the family trip same time last year and I did notice the crowds were bigger. We only went to MGM & MK but had a great time. People who do not use the fast pass are nuts...couldn't survive without it. It was hot/humid rained on us one time but was not bad. We had a romantic dinner at the Polynesian (Ohana) and had a wonderful view of Wishes from our table. We also had a wonderful view @ MK the night before. Napped almost everyday but stayed out late every night!! Stitche's great escape was very disappointing compared to ET encounter. Strolled through Downtown Disney loved the new legos!!!!! It is definitely a different experience without the kids but we are big Disney fans and we learn new tips everytime we go so we can plan a better trip next time :-) ARE they ever going to finish POP CENTURY???

How did you manage that one ?????? My kids would KILL us if we went to WDW without them!!!:lookaroun Sounds like you had fun though:) . I have thought about it, probably when they are out of the nest, but then they would most likely still want to come anyways !!

 Wrong company - ET works in the other theme park just up the road (but I know what you mean) - glad to hear that you had a nice trip without the kids - thanks for the post

Easy - you just don't tell them the truth. "Hey kids, mom and I are planning a family trip to Indiana to see the world's largest ear of corn. Who wants to come? We can also see the world's largest ball of twine which is just 1500 miles out of the way."

Just don't let them catch you watching the planning video and don't come home with the mickey ears on your head. You'll also need a safety deposit box to store the photos.

Of course, if the kids are teens, they won't want to be anywhere near you.

Hey! We don't have the largest ear of corn (I think). Give my state SOME credit (though not much)...:hammer:

Well, my kids ARE teens and they would KILL us if we went without them. Oh, we've thought about it, fantasized... maybe it will happen someday. I'm afraid by the time they are all out of the nest, we'll have grandkids wanting to come with. So seriously, how DID you manage this?

We live within driving distance, so it is easy for us to get away for a weekend and leave the kids with the grandparents. They are 2 and 7, and only the 7 year old would whine if he knew where we were going without him. So really - we just don't tell them. We just say Mom and Dad are going on a trip for the weekend and he never really asks. There is no guilt because we take them many many times.

If you have to take them, why can't you get away without them for a bit? I guess it depends on their age. I recommend the cruise where they will take the kids all day long and even in the evening and there are plenty of activities for them to do while the two grownups get to relax and enjoy time alone. As soon as the little one turns 3, (minimum age for the kids activities), we are taking one.
