Short stay dining question

I have always utilized the free dining plan in the off season. Because of this past heavy winter our daughter's high school band was forced to delay the Disney trip and performance to the second week of June............ just timed perfectly to fall into the no deals at all time frame.

My husband and adult son are planning to fly down and be there to see her play, but plan on using the rest of our time to just enjoy the resort. Originally we planned on just one day tickets but is it true we have to buy 2 days just to get the dining plan, which we have to pay for anyway?

Secondly, does this mean we have to buy a package and therefore be unable to use any AAA discount on the room?

Thanks!

Lol. I should have clarified that part. The band is arriving by bus from Ohio and staying offsite. We will fly and stay at FQ. So we are booking separately from the band.

That was my thought. We arrive Sunday and leave Thursday but my husband is pretty enamored with the meal plan. For me it is really a waste as I think it is simply too much food...........

Plus, husband and son don't really want the second park visit in the peak season. (I of course want to do Magic Kingdom and the band is playing at Epcot.)
