Shopping/supplies in Vero Beach

Hey Folks,

We're headed to Disney's Vero Beach resort next month. We'll be staying in a 1 bedroom villa and we have plans to cook a bunch of our meals to save some wampum.....

So this question is for anyone that has been to vero before. What shopping/supermarkets are within driving distance of the resort.

I'm aware that there's apparently a super Walmart out on US1. Any other supermarket/stores worth knowing about?

Thanks

We just stayed at Vero Beach back in February, and while the Publix on ! is very close to the resort, the store is rather old and is on the small side. We found the Publix on Rte 58 at Rte 60 to be a mush nicer store. Its larger and carries a better selection. The Indian River Mall is just a mile or so west of Rte 58 and is not all the impressive. Other than Macy's, JCPenney, Dillard's and a fairly decent food court, the rest of the mall was almost empty, another victim of the economy I suppose. The outlet mall is just your standard outlet mall, but skip the McDonald's at the entrance. The drive-thru is very slow and the dining room is tiny and was very dirty the day that we were there.

Try Sonny's Real Pit BBQ on Rte 60. Great food, friendly service and it won't break the budget. For a special treat, try the Riverside Cafe, just don't mind the bait shop in front. The food while a bit on the high side price wise, but was well worth it for the quality. Don't miss the incredible sunsets from the deck.

We loved Disney's Vero Beach Resort. The one bedroom villas are great, the grounds are simply beautiful and the most of the staff are very friendly and helpful. The front desk staff was hit or miss on service, but mostly miss. I wish we had been able to use the beach but it was closed for restoration and with temps in the low 50s. it was a bit too chilly to hang out on.
