Hi, I just got hired as Part Time at Disney World, as Custodial in Hollywood Studios. I am available any day anytime honestly. But since I am part time, I know I get the minimum of 3 days of working. However, I wanted to know how many shifts am I allowed to pick up from people? I heard there was some kind of CAP on that? Wanted to see if anyone knew how many hours a week I am allowed with picking up shifts?

If anyone knows, or has information about, please let me know :)

Thanks! Appreciate it!

You can't go over 40 hours by trading shifts/taking them from friends, but you can go over 40 hours if you use the Extra Hours Hotline.

Thanks! That does help me a lot. I thought those two things were the same though? What is the difference in trading/picking up shifts from the hotline.

Thanks!!

Trading is directly with another CM, the hotline is through a phone from the Company. Weird rule, I know, but that's how they operate.

Ah, okay. Very weird rule ha. Thanks, it helped a lot. Hopefully they decide to give me more than three days of work though, since summer is a busy season for Disney World :)

The CAP is related to the magic number - 24 hours. If you work over 24 hours a week for X time (I think it's half the year?) then you'll get capped to 24. It doesn't matter if you work 25 or 55, anything over 24 is calculated towards that Cap. The best way to manage it is to work about couple weeks way above 24, then work a couple weeks below it. That will help keep your overall average down.

As for trading shifts versus EHH...

Trading has to be equal. If the person is scheduled on regular time, they can only trade the shift to others who would be paid regular time. If it's already an OT shift for them, they can trade it to someone as an OT shift.

As for EHH, shifts on the hotline open in phases. 1st the shifts are opened to people who would be on regular time. If no one picks it up after a couple days, then it becomes available to people for OT. It's a way to help the seasonal CMs pick up shifts first before FT CMs grab up all the OT. This is a change that went into effect earlier this month, so it's still in the learning phase.

A question for you since you're clearly well informed-
whenever I applied I applied as part/full time but got put on "part" time since I mentioned going to school, but I won't be going to school again until at least January 2014 again, due to financial reasons and would really like to work full time. Is there any way of going about this without having to wait the six months? My friend that works in tomorrowland mentioned getting onto the hub immediately after I gain access and putting in a full time transfer. What's your opinion about this and what would you suggest?

Thanks, I appreciate this. It makes much more sense now :D . Another question I figure I would ask, for us Part Time cast member's, anything over 24 hours a week would be overtime? How does that work. I wish I could be full time, hopefully I can switch or put in for full time in my near future so I can get some higher hours :]

Sorry - I don't log in often so I didn't see you had a follow up question.

If you can work FT now, I think you should go ahead and put in the request once you get Hub access. However, when January comes, you're not guaranteed to be able to drop back to Part Time or Seasonal. It's all based on open head count, so you may have to self term. If you want something long term, then I'd stick with Part Time and be mindful of not getting capped (though when you're in school, being capped would be to your benefit).

No - OT and the Cap are unrelated - anything over 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week is OT.

There's a very small chance that I would be dropping back, but I'm not completely sure. Thanks for the response

I've been wondering about picking up parade control shifts via EHH. It's my understanding that those shifts are available to everyone. However, it's been saying it requires special training that I do not currently have.
I am seasonal and need to supplement the hours I will receive within my normal role. The only EHH shifts I am ever qualified for are FS Boats, my normal role.
Does anyone know how this works or how I can pick up shifts in other areas during mnsshp and food and wine?

There are some trained PAC shifts and some untrained. The casting call for Food and Wine has already come and gone so I doubt you'll be able to get in for that.
