Sharing the Disney Love

It occurs to me that I want EVERYONE to be as big a fan of Disney parks as I am. So I'm always encouraging people to visit the parks, notice the details, and experience the magic.

This carries over to when I'm in the parks, too. I find myself pointing things out to total strangers (details, effects, backstory, changes from the original, etc.). In some ways, I know I'm being That Guy, but I really just want to share the things I love.

Anyone else like me? What kinds of things to you point out to random strangers in an attempt to increase their appreciation and fun?

I have totally convinced as least four different couples to take a trip to Disney in the past few years. Disney should really have some sort of referral program! :p

I love the idea of sharing the little things I love about Disney...but I'm honestly not sure everyone 'got it'. I tell them to listen to the music, how it transitions flawlessly from one land to the next, look at the little details in the queue, whether you're breezing through or having to wait a little bit. I stand around photographing flowers, lanterns, Hidden Mickeys and the like, because in the end, Disney really brings the 'theme' to the world 'theme park'.

The biggest comeback I get from people when I say they should visit is that it is just for kids, and then I have to explain that it is for kids of all ages. Adults like it too.

I actually appreciate people like you! I've been to the world about 15 times, but I'm still no Disney expert. I love when someone points out something new. But I do understand that the things I appreciate may not be a big deal to other people... like the new laptop in COP or the fact that Ben Franklin in the American Adventure is wearing historically accurate underwear.

I did NOT know that about Ben Franklin!

All our friends and acquaintances know I'm the Disney crazed guy they need to go to before they go on a trip. They love viewing my Disney items and I have an extensive Disney library. I'm always willing to talk Disney or share Disney info. When I'm in the parks Im always pointing out things to DW, DS and friends we happen to be with. Often others nearby listening in on our conversation will say... How interesting, or We never knew that. When I'm in line I will politely correct guests if I hear them saying something in error.
On one of our last trips I was telling DS all about the chess match stalemate you can view on the PoTC queue when a small family group stopped and listened to me describe it. They were fascinated by the story.
Its all about sharing what you love and helping someone else appreciate all the small details Disney has added throughout the parks and attractions.

I'm full of a lot of useless knowledge and fortunately my family enjoys hearing it. I don't do too much with strangers but if someone is lost, I'm glad to help out. I do like to share our trips with others and often invite people along. We've had a few take us up on that.

Yes! I totally do this! Not in a know-it-all sort of way, but in a, "did you know?" sort of way.

For me, the more you know about Disney, the more fun it is.

We were in line for the monorail in the Contemporary last night. I heard some girls in line behind us talking about Mary Blair, I turned and started talking all about Mary Blair...then I realized I am that guy. I'm not sure people love it, hate it, or are just annoyed by it. It's usually only when I hear something totally wrong that I feel inclined to share the truth. I just love the fact that for so long Disney has been adding the little details that are hidden to many...it's what really makes it magical to me. You're not alone, although I think my wife sometimes wishes you were.

I do a lot of the same things, including correcting bad information and chatting up random people in the park. My wife loves the parks as much as I do, but she couldn't care less about the history and most of the little details and kinda glazes over when I get on a roll.

If you can do it in such a way that you don't destroy that individual's credibility in front of friends and/or family, then good for you.

Otherwise, don't be "that guy."

That's me, except for correcting people. I have some of the best conversations with strangers at the parks. Last week we met a couple from England there for the first time, and we shared so much information. Not just about Disney, but life and culture. It is fun to hear stories and learn about life outside of Florida!

Given what we know of Ben's... uh... "proclivities"... I'm not sure he wore underwear all that much.
