Share Holders

I just watched Roy's request to the share holders and I start wondering, is there a minimal number of shares that you have to own to be able to vote on future of the company.

Basically, is there any difference between (privilege wise) owning 1000 shares compared to 1 or 20 shares.

I am not to knowledgeable with that department and am I getting shares and stocks mixed up.

Thanks

As with any publicly owned company, if you own one share, the co. is required to send you notification of shareholder's meetings and info. on any meeting/voting process that requires the shareholders input. Yes, even if you own one share, you are entitled to a co. prospectus, and a proxy voting "card".

Many companies will ask you to vote the way the board sees fit; ie: "the board recommends that you vote 'yes/no' on this issue"...and a brief explanation why.

If you don't turn in your vote, or attend the shareholder's meeting, the board will assume voting power on behalf of the shareholder and vote the way they best see fit, in accordance with their recommendations.

...in this case, they would vote yes to keep Eisner and the like to remain on the Board of Directors.

What is the best way to purchase Disney stock? We, as a family, have been watching all the goings on with Disney right now and think it might be interesting to own a share of stock. I found one website where you can get 1 share, but their fees are more than the stock costs! If you own stock, where did you get it?

Thanks for any and all information!

I bought my stock directly from Disney (minimum investment is around $1,000. + / - ). The easiest way to avoid large fees is to open an account with a discount broker (like Ameritrade...very easy to use). I have my shares in a DRIP account; all dividends are automatically re invested. I would suggest getting an annual report & prospectus (direct from Disney) and read up carefully before investing. For me owning Disney stock is more sentimental than money making.
