SHANGHAI, China (LA Times) -- Shanghai authorities denied media reports that the Walt Disney Co. had signed a framework agreement with the local government to build a theme park in the Chinese city.
The Hong Kong Economic Times and the English-language South China Morning Post had quoted unidentified sources as saying that the deal, signed within the last month, included plans for a joint venture with local companies to build and operate the park.
Disney officials in Hong Kong couldn't be reached for comment, but a spokeswoman for Shanghai's Foreign Affairs Office denied that any documents had been signed with Disney.
