Shades Of Green Info

I never quite understood the relationship of Shades of Green to the WDW Company, as everything I read about it makes them seem completely un-related....but thats ANOTHER story!

One thing I DID hear that I wanted to pass along is that they are once again taking reservations for their December 2003 Grand Opening.

EVERY room was remodeled to match the new rooms being built, and - GET THIS! - All rooms will have standard amenities such as ironing boards and televisions, but there will be some new twists -- refrigerators, wireless TV keyboards and 12 hours of Internet access for about $6. Guests will be able to play TV video games, in-room movies and order attraction tickets online from the hotel's tickets and tours office.

If WDW can add refridgerators and Internet access to these rooms (as we have discussed recently on these boards).....can the rest of the Resorts be far behind?????

WOOHOO!

SOG was The Disney Golf Resort when MK originally opened. The DOD signed a long term agreement some time ago to use the resort exclusivly for military families. About five years ago I heard the cost to an active military family for a double room was under $50.

I just played golf at Magnolia and the construction at SOG was extensive, complete rehab and considerable expansion. Don't know who is paying for it but I always understood Disney still owns the property.

hi.. as a newbie here i was interested to see what you all had to say about the shades of green. my family and i have stayed there on our last visit to wdw and we were very pleased. the information was a lil strange to me (or maybe it's how i read it) but it was accurate to a point. costs to a military (active or retired, or a DOD employee) is based primarily on rank. my father as a retired chief petty officer (rank E7) had a room rate of $89 per night. from what we understand, the refurb. is being financed through MWR funds (moral, welfare and recreation funds) which (again, to our understanding) is generated by sales from the navy exchanges (a shopping area on base). that i'm not 100% certain on though. if you really want to know about the shades of green, what it has to offer, etc. you can go to its website at http://www.armymwr.com/shades/index.html i haven't had the time to read what folks have been saying about staying in the contemporary vs. the SOG, but from my parents' experience last year, they prefer the family atmosphere of the SOG. just their preference -- i'll be finding out in october for myself. sorry this got to be so long winded, but i thought i'd offer a bit more information on this and possibly provide some that is a lil more up to date (as opposed to five years ago.) i look forward to reading the rest of your posts..!!
