My wife and I are going in early Sept..right after Labor Day. Do we need reservations that time of year? I would prefer to stay a little less constrained because my wife already thinks I overplan, but if there are particular restaurants I will defintley need to reserve, let me know.

And yeah we are on the dining plan.

You definitely want to make reservations anywhere and everywhere possible as soon as you can.. like today. Free dining is going on most of September, so a lot of places may already be booked up.

The days of walk-up dining are almost over.

Absoloutely make the reservations!!! Hopefully, its not too late already. My trip is in December 2008 and I called 180 days out (6 months out) and I couldn't even get all the places I wanted at the times I wanted. Many people call way in advance and many of the popular places get booked early. Call right away. Good luck!

We are going the first full week after Labor Day for 10 days. We have made 3 reservations. Two for California Grill and one for Narcoossees.

Last year we went during the same time. I only made 2 reservations last year. I was able to make same day reservations for the followind durning my last trip:

Artist Point, Narcoossees, California Grill, Kona Cafe

We got walk up seating at the following with little to no wait:

Rose n Crown (7 pm at night), Biergarten, Brown Derby, Trails End

I am not crazy about character meals, but those you really need to secure ahead of time.

Hmm so Le Chefs De France and Le Cellier would be a good bets to need a reservation huh. I was also thinking of maybe doing the Polonysian Dinner Show, because hey, free beer! Is that worth the two tickets?

If it's even possible to get into them at this point.. again, free dining is going on that time of year so there will be full restaurants and those are two of the most popular. Well, Le Cellier anyway.
I've heard nothing but great things about the Luau, and I'd say it's worth the two tickets since it's dinner and a show, but that's really up to you.

I will say I went during Spring Break this year, and I was able to get into The Plaza as a walkup. But still, better safe than sorry, especially during free dining and for the really popular restaurants.
