September 29th, Magic Kingdom..........8am-12am. Any reason why so long?

It doesn't fit with any other date surrounding it. Nothing is happening that day out of the ordinary. The parade in the afternoon, Happily Ever After at 8pm. Yet the park is open until midnight. Other days the Magic Kingdom is open until 9pm or if the Halloween party is happening then 6pm. But nothing close to 12am. Any reason? We'll be there during this time and it might be a good day to go with that extra time.

MK has emh every Wednesday, or is this just the regular hours listed for that day?

The day I was asking about is a Saturday

Any Saturday during party season is going to be ugly busy. I don't find those hours to be noteworthy for what the crowds will likely be.

I hear ya, it should be busy. But with the park open 8am-12am we are talking about 16 hours here. Even if it is on a Saturday wouldn't this be worth it? It is a Saturday on one of the least busiest times of the year, how bad will it be? Throw in the fact that people are travelling to and from Florida at this time (weekends are often used for travelling) and shouldn't it be at worthwhile?

I would choose a shorter day. Crowd levels that day will make it far less appealing. Choose a party day if possible for the best experience in terms of crowds.

Looks like they're open pretty late most Saturdays in September.

An 8:00 AM opening can be really good if you make rope drop. In my experience, most people don't make it that early, and the first hour or two will be relatively quiet.

If it were me, I'd try and do rope drop, leave for an afternoon break, and return in the evening. Worst case scenario, it's a zoo and you park hop somewhere else (assuming you have the option).

I'm glad it's open till midnight. Hopefully it'll draw some of the crowds away from Epcot (which on a Sat night during F&W will be a zoo).
But it's my Wife's birthday......and she wants Epcot & Chefs De France.

They change park hours all the time. They will also do this a couple weeks out, so not much notice. I go in the fall every year and the park hours always get extended. I am sure we will be seeing more parks staying open later.

There are no slow times anymore. As someone else said, it is not a party night, so the crowds will be up. TouringPlans Crowd Calendar currently puts that day as a 6/10 for the MK, with days around it much lower.

Okay so here is something I am a little green about. 6/10 doesn't sound all that bad. If I am correct is that not just above average? I would think 10/10 crowds would be Saturdays in the summer, no? Or Christmas. But is 6/10 bad?

I don't think I'll go on Saturday. But the reason I want to go a night it is open until 9 is so that I see the fireworks. That's important to me. 6pm closing date is just too short for me.

I understand that. It's a tough trade-off. (It's because so many people feel like you that those non party days are so crowded). For myself lately, it's been worth giving up seeing fireworks inside the park to have the potential for lower crowds. As crowds in the MK have grown, it's become one of the only ways to increase your odds of lower crowds. I try to watch the fireworks from outside the park instead.
