September 17-23 Trip

Hello,

We are going to DW in mid-late September, staying at AOA. Couple of questions we have, keep in mind they are specific to when we are going:

1- What are the lines like at the parks? Obviously DW is always busy but how will it be compared to June and July?

2- One one day in particular we have fastpasses and dining reservations that take up almost the whole day leaving no room for naps for little one. If we skip a fastpass in order to take a break at the resort will it be the end of the world?

3- What is the weather like mid-late september?

4- How long should we expect it to take to get from MK to AOA or vice-versa via bus?

5- Are any of the pools at AOA open late? For example if we get back to the park around 9:30 or 10 and the kids still have some energy to blow off can they swim? How late?

Thanks a lot for any input.

To randomly answer some of your queries ...
2) missing an FP is fine, it’s not like an ADR where if you no-show you get charged.

However, if you decide you’ll just quit while you’re “just about” ahead :))), and will miss an FP you can modify it to a later time if you know you’ll be back in the same park later.

Or, if you are going to park hop, then cancel it. If it’s one of your initial 3 FPs you can make one in another park once you cancel.

Or just wait until you know for sure and make the 4th FP, then a 5th and so on.

Which is also another point for Q1. When you’ve used your first FP, you can see if FP no. 2 can be modified to an earlier time. Then no. 3 and then see what else you can get. Many of the rides will have FPs available, sometimes even “right now” or within 20 minutes.

3) Mid-late September will still be hot and humid. Not so much as July and August, the sweat may not actually soak through your tee!

4) Allow an hou, to wait for a bus and get there. May be quicker, often will be, but if you leave at the same time as hundreds of other people it could be longer. Especially at park close.

5) I think most pools close around 9/10 now. I imagine the AoA pool has life guards and will close around then.

I agree with everything @nickys said except for this. :angelic: Having visited WDW numerous times in July, August and September I can say that September is just as hot and humid...or even more than...July and August. I have soaked through many tees!

September can also be very rainy with daily storms that may last longer than the “typical 20 minutes” Florida rain. Last September brought Hurricane Irma to WDW. Be prepared for rain BEFORE you leave for the parks each day....you’ll be glad you did.

This is something that has been a concern of ours since we started planning 4 months ago, the rain. What would you say the odds are of our trip being a total wash? We have a few things we can do should we have a rainy day but we are terrified the whole trip will be ruined due to rain.

Ah! I haven’t been in September, and somehow thought it would be a little cooler. I stand corrected!

We went in September 2015 and it only rained 1 day for about an hour.

I went in September 2010 and 2014. In 2010, I did not see even a hint of rain. As for 2014 it rained most days but only for a bit 30 min or so. We thru on our ponchos and went. We are from Vancouver BC so used to rain. As for the humid hot heat. Yup it's hot but get used to it pretty quick. As for the lines, we had no issues in the past however, I hear it's busier than ever in September. If someone has been there last year and can tell us, I would appreciate it.

Take ponchos and carry on. The rain will clear out the parks but that’s good, right? Some rides will close, but if you have an FP you’ll get a free one to use almost anywhere (and you can use the original one too, if the ride opens up again).

Obviously if it’s major rain/storms then the above isn’t true. But the chances are it won’t happen. I know it can, but lots of people do go in September and have a great time.

I was at WDW last week. It rained A LOT. Every day. There were ankle-deep puddles in the Magic Kingdom.

Did the rain clear out the crowds at MK? Not in the least. We went back to our resort after lunch and returned at 6:30 pm to find long standby lines for most attractions.

Would we have preferred no rain? Of course, but we also did not suffer any heat exhaustion or sweat profusely.

Was our week a total wash-out? Not at all! We still had a marvelous time! We kept our expectations low and laughed in the rain. Our mantra? “A rainy day at Disney is better than a sunny day at home.”

It’s all about your attitude. 😉

I went around those dates last year. We were so lucky with rain. It rained a couple times but we were heading to do something indoors at the time so we just made sure to put the rain cover on the stroller. We never even broke the ponchos out! (I know this is very unusual, but it was awesome not dealing with the rain) As for the heat it's between hot and hotter. The nice thing is you can still run to the pool at night for a quick swim because it's still hot enough.

I went to a September conference in 2011, I think it rained something like 10 inches that week BUT it was the best time we ever had! My spouse is not a Disney person, but even she had so much fun she's going with me to another conference September this year. During the rain the parks clear out, but if you dont try to stay dry and just go with being soaked you will have fun.

I'm reminded of a saying that my DW is fond of "Some people dance in the rain, others just get wet".
