Sept 1-10 rude Americans report

i am a new yorker tried and true, born and bred
we have been going to WDW for 16 years now, sometime 2 or 3 times a year
and have attended every special ticketed event so we know disney pretty well

we changed our schedule and now only go during the month of sept to avoid the BRAZILIANS

however we discoverd a new issue our trip last week , rude AMEICANS!!!

specifically people having no or little patience
in epcot, on soarin, we has just unbuckled our seat belts and started to stand up to get our stored items
a woman and her child pushed past me, actually physically pushed me, to get past me to get her first seat in the first row
the seat was already assigned to her but she felt a need to rush to it leaving her child BEHIND to find her own way
and when i said to my friend these people could have waited and until we at least stood up, she had to nerve to actually yell out at me in her southern drawl, nice language in front of children

and she was not the only one treating us rudely, i feel it was because we were a 4 latino and 1 white person party
not every latino is brazilian and you should not assume that all latinos act and behave as the brazilian groups do

i really feel that so many of us americans hate the brazilian groups so much that we are starting to assume and treat all latinos with the anger and frustration that we feel toward the brazilians

now that i have personally experienced this myself and know it to be true, stop the madness!!!!

I frankly doubt it had anything to do with you being latino. Anyone who goes enough to know about the Brazilian tour groups and their behavior probably isn't rushing to ride Sourin' again (for the 20th time). Regulars know the deal, and in my experience tend to take the parks leisurely (I love running into another regular in line...we chat about the World and our trips the whole wait).

It was probably some harried mom who planned a 3 day trip and thought they could see it all in that time and did the stand-by line. :P

It's what I call "Trying to do Disney like Six Flags"...most people have literally no idea how much there is to do at Disney, and when they get there and realize that their short vacation isn't enough time, they get harried and frustrated...

<shrug> So, there's my opine. I do agree about rude people (regardless of nationality)...they are frustrating.

thanks for responding
i did not post everything that she said due to the fact it was quite insulting and anti latino
it did include a few insults about "all you spanish"
so it was in fact ethniclly racial

I with agree with englanddg it sounds like she's just a rude crazy inconsiderate BiT@%!! I don't think it had anything to do with your race. Also, you said she pushed passed you to get to her seat, I doubt she even looked twice at you to even notice what race you were. It sounds like she's the type of nasty person that would have done that to anyone.

So much for the happiest place on Earth. Some people just have no class. Regardless of race, age, economic stature or gender there are always ignorant people.

Michael you are right. There are just as many rude Americans in the parks as any other nationality. I live in NYC too. Everyone seems to get along fine here.

That's funny, because I'm southern, and NYC is one of the most racist places I've ever visited (lived there 12 months opening a store on Flatbush and Atlantic in Brooklyn, as well as another 6 months near Co-op City). There I ran into people who were always looking for "code words", and are even openly racist. For example, I remember an EEOC investigation I had to sit through due to the Brooklyn opening because I terminated a manager who was harassing female (and under statutory age in NY!) coworkers, for harassment, and he claimed his termination was racial. It was an 18 month investigation, and one of his points was when I informed the management team not to hire "bozos", that was code for "black people"...no, it wasn't. It was what the word means. Don't hire bozos. But, it took 18 months for the Federal Government to figure that out. What a pain.

I guess it's all a matter of experience.

Respecting the original post, if she said "all you spanish"...that probably wasn't Southern white trash. She'd have called you a Mexican. To them, everyone who has a tan is a Mexican. Hell, my kid who is a mix of all sorts (1/8 English, 1/8 Scottish, 1/4 African American, 1/4 Puerto Rican, a registered American Indian with the Cherokee Tribe, ....you get the idea, do I really need to break it down? She's an EEOC inspectors nightmare!)

Again, I suspect it was just some lady who was overly stressed about her vacation, and was acting the fool. I was in the hospitality business for 11 years, and people act like that sometimes. You just have to move on, because you can't change it, and outside of that instance, you might find they are perfectly delightful people (though...probably not...but it helps to think that...what's Disney say? A Wish is a Dream your heart makes?)

I'm terribly sorry you experienced it though, sounds like she was a...um...well, we'll leave it at fool.

I hope you didn't let it ruin your day.

Oh, and did she call her child Honey Boo Boo? <grin>

Give it time. Half of this country is acting like Honey Boo Boo. I am ashamed to be American sometimes. I watch 2 seconds of the garbage while flipping through channels and I start to wish we hadn't won our independence.

I always find these type of postings hysterical and demeaning all at that same time. The board usually starts with a story about someone who was rude in the parks and the next thing we have is posters on these boards being just as ignorant and rude as the person in the original story.

So I am 33 year old male born in the US. My father is Brazilian (I have dual citizenship), my mother is Cuban, I was born in NY (the Bronx to be exact) and have lived in South Carolina for over 20 years (and I wouldn't have it any other way). I believe every part of me has been insulted by the different things said by different posters on this board. Way to go my fellow Disney brothers and sisters, this is a first.

It's a good thing that I have tough skin and can understand people's frustrations, even I get frustrated with the tour groups and rude people. However, before you hit the "Post Reply" button take a second to think about what you are saying. If you are not careful you will come out looking either just as or more ignarant than the person that the story was orginally about.

Have a great day everyone.:D

OP, so sorry to hear that you had to experience such behavior. Sometimes I think that people don't do well in unfamiliar settings and get more stressed than they normally would. Not to excuse any of the behaviors that I have read about people experiencing on these boards, because most of it there is no call for. I believe there are a lot of people that try so hard to have a "great" vacation, to see and do everything, that they really end up behaving in a manner that maybe they would normally not do.

I dont think race has anyhing to do with it. There are just alot of plain rude people out there. I work for a bank , and day in day out, people's behaviour never ceases to amaze and disappoint me.

I stopped reading after the first response because I can back the OP on being treated differently for looking like a Brazilian. People assume that I speak Spanish and even workers will start speaking Spanish/Portuguese to me, until I notify them that I don't speak either. They also assume that my wife is too, even though she's like 3/4 Irish and looks nothing like a Brazilian. I will agree that over the last week we experienced more rude Americans than usual, but the Brazilians definitely held their spot at #1 in our books. I've learned a few phrases in Portuguese and I love the looks on their faces when I call them out on their rude behavior.

Not really on topic, but many years ago I had the opportunity to travel to Cannes for work (tough gig, right??) One of my favorite things to do was to go to a local market and buy some fruit, water and snacks for my room (and pick up a souvenir or two!)

On one of my last trips, I was at an open air market and this obviously American woman was in front of me. She was interested in buying something, but spoke no French. The woman who owned the booth spoke no English. (I was not fluent, but learned enough to not go hungry/thirsty!) The American became so incensed she kept yeling, "I don't understand why they don't speak English!!" Um, maybe because you are in France and it is their country after all???? Talk about rude Americans!

Im from N.y. too and, as amazed as I am at some of the stuff I see on Long Island everyday...its pales in comparison to What I see every Time We go to Wdw!!

People strategically placing them selfs in a Que so They can get an Inch in front of you.

Grown -ups pushing past children to get ahead of them.

People who show up 2 minutes before parade time and try to camp out in front of you even thought youve been there for an Hour!!!

...people in jazzy scooters blowing the horn like the world should move at Their pace. ugggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! THE WORST!!!

I get that your time is at a Premium when visiting Wdw But man....How can it possibly be fun to go thru the parks Like That??
