Sending Supplies Ahead?

I was talking to one of my managers today and her son is going to Disneyworld in September with his two daughters, who will be two years and seven months old. She was telling me how they aren't sure exactly what they're going to do about diapers and baby food since they're going for twelve days and weren't expecting to rent a car. I told her that I'd heard that people have sent things ahead of time to the hotels and was wondering if anyone has every done this.

I have heard that you can do this. But what we did was order groceries on line at garden grocers. There is a 15 dollar delivery fee but it beats shipping costs. The groceries are delivered to the front desk of your resort in bags labeled if they need to be refrigerated. The bell hops will deliver them to your room and even put the refrigerated items in the fridge for you if you are not there. You can order bottles of water, soda, juice, formula, diapers, snacks, breakfast items, bananas, apples, yogurt and you can take food and drinks into the park. Was one of the best tips we ever got and we'll be doing it every time for now on. Saves a lot of money on food.

while i agree with prior poster that garden grocer is a great way of doing this, and actually what i do when i go, if they want to send a package ahead, it is easy to do..
simply find the address of the resort where they are staying, (allears.net lists every address), and address package to themselves, add the address of the resort and the date of their arrival. no matter when they send it, bell services will keep it for them. when they arrive simply ask for it.
i learned the beauty of garden grocer the first time we took my grandchild, who was then 10 months old. our next trip will include grandkids who will be 3, 2, and 3 months old at the time. diapers are bulky to ship or carry, formula is heavy, and wipes are heavy, heavy = more expensive to ship. but the major advantage is that we have fresh foods and dairy for them. things like fruit, yogurt for breakfast, and MILK, MILK, MILK, you should see what those kids can go through. either way, taking a baby and it's supplies should be no big deal, don't let them stress you in any way

We have sent things ahead. Just call the Disney Travel and give them your reservation number and expalin you would like to send things ahead and they will give you the address and all the info to do it. We used the postal service and it was at the desk when we checked in, my duagther had a p[ackage shipped direct from Amazon.com and I believe they used UPS and I had to pay like a $10 fee to get the package. We sent down food and liquids in the box so you can pretty much send anything you want. I would send the diapers, wipes and any forula they will need.

You can send yourself a package to the resort and they will hold it at the front desk until arrival. I believe the rule is it can not come more than 10 days before check in. It is a great way to send non-perishables to the resort and depending on the method used it can be less than the grocery delivery. Also for grocery delivery I believe you have to be in your room at delivery time if it is just a shipment even if it comes in and you are not at the resort yet or you are still in the parks Disney will hold it for you. We always have stuff sent to us before we get down to the world and just make sure the expect delivery frame is a day before our arrival. This way if it is late it will typically be that day or the next morning and if it is early Disney will hold it no problem. If you are worried it would be late just figure the earliest delivery date as the earliest expect by date so if UPS is 2-3 day shipping figure on post marking it by the 12 day before you leave.

Assuming they are looking for non perishable items, as well as diapers, definitely look into Amazon. With those items Amazon will be tons cheaper than Garden Grocer or WeGoShop, and odds are you can get free shipping on them as well. (And you can then resuse the box to ship stuff back home..)

I've done this, but be aware - If they're staying at a Convention Resort (Grand Floridian, Coronado Springs, Boardwalk, Yacht Club, Contemporary), they will have to go to the business center to pick the package up. On top of that, they'll have to pay $10 to get the package. They will NOT bring the box to your room for you.

Sent packages ahead to GF for several years and never had any difficulty getting the package upon arrival. It was usually even waiting in the room when we arrived. You do not want the pkg to arrive more than 10 days prior to arrival. Whoever does your shipping can give you the estimated delivery date. Shipping ahead is really great especially for the diapers. We found it was cheaper for us to ship from home than to use a delivery service.

I agree with other posts above in regards to Garden Grocer! We took our daughter when she was 7mos and pre-ordered diapers, baby food, etc. It was great having everything there and cut down on the amount we had to pack ourselves!

People do the exact same thing with their luggage as well. They swear to me that for long trips it turns out cheaper than paying the baggage fees most airlines have.

My wife calls the day before we fly down to check that the package she shipped had arrived. We've never had any issues or problems. Yes, Disney doesn't want packages sent too far ahead of your arrival because they have limited space to store packages.
