We will be in WDW in Sept and my DH was interested in doing the segway tour. Were do you call to book it, how much is it and how far in advance do you need to book it?

407-WDW-Tour

My parents, grandparents and brother have all taken the segway around the world tour in Epcot and have all loved it. If you have a Disney Visa make sure you book with that for the discount. I think there might be a discount code in the back of the official guide if you don't have a Disney Visa

407-WDW-Tour

$95 - less with an AP or Disney Visa discount (5 or 10 bucks off)

It is a 2 hour tour

There are two Segway tours, the EPCOT one and the FW "off road" one.

I have done the EPCOT twice, have not doen the FW (yet)

As far as I know the FW is only on certain days (3 or 4 days a weeK)

The EPCOT runs 4 tours daily (in the AM)

Be aware that if you book the earlies tours, WDW transportation will not run early enough to get you there

The second time (8:30) is doable, but very tight scheduling.

I personaly like the earlier times. When you take the last tour, there will be people in the world showcase while you are zipping around.

As for how far in advance. Both tours I was in had open slots. In theory you could go to EPCOT guest relations 30 minutes before the tour time and try to get into one. However to be sure you have the time you want, and if you are with a group, to reserve enough spots, call as soon as you can.

Also, just a tip. I know a number of people who have taken this tour and we all felt the same way. You get on the Segway, and you start to think "I will never be able to ride this thing" It feels really tippy and one of my friends was going to quit. Give it 10 minutes or so. It is a very fast learning curve, and very quickly you become comfortable on it.

OT, but since we are talking about the Segway tours... my mom has been wanting to do this, but I keep talking her out of it.

She's a senior citizen, she is by no means frail, but she is also not in the greatest shap. She is also VERY techology challenged. I still haven't been able to teach her how to use her cell phone.

Is she a person who would be able to learn how to use a segway? Do they let you use an EVC if you aren't comfertable with the segaway?

Thanks!

If you are nervous about the Segway, they let you try them in the Innoventions (on the right side when entering EPCOT). They let you do it for all of 2 minutes, but it still enough to know.

It really isn't fair to judge whether or not you'll become comfortable enough with it based on that quick try though. I know the first time I did it I was an absolute mess and couldn't believe that people were able to glide around on them so easily, but the next time I tried it I was much smoother.

Both my grandparents (60's) did it and didn't have a problem. From what I can tell, once you get used to the stearing system the worst part is having to stand still on the segways for the full tour.

Yes, as I said, it IS a pretty quick learning curve, but myself and 5 friends of mine all had the same experence.

For the first 5-10 minutes, you think you are never going to be able to handle it. Then all of a sudden it just clicks. I had gone on the tour, and went through this process, and then went at a later time with my friends. I could see the anxiety in their faces as they first stepped on the Segway. The staff is very good at getting you up to speed with the training.

Your legs do start to hurt, as you are standing pretty much motionless as you ride the thing. It is kind of surprising. They do take a break part way through the tour. You get "free time" oven in Itlay, where you can either zip around in circles, or get off and rest

Oh, and someone mentioned the age limits. There is also a 250 lb weight limit.
