Security?

I haven't been since 2015 and I know a lot has changed with security at the resort which is certainly a good thing, but I'm curious how it all works now. I'll be staying at the grand Californian and the Disneyland hotel both.
Can anyone go over what the security experience is like no leaving and entering the hotels to/ from downtown Disney and the parks?

There is a security check leaving either hotel prior to entering Downtown Disney. There is a check entering through from the Grand directly into DCA. Security checks are really dependent upon the number of guests trying to go through and how many check lines they have open. There is no longer a security check at the Esplanade unless you are coming from the Toy Story Lot.

If you leave DTD to go back to your hotel for example, you will have to go through security again to re-enter DTD.
