Security

I'm headed to WDW in April, my first time back since 9/11... any new security rules or regulations I should know about? Will Disney security be searching tote bags, etc.? I just don't want to have a contraband nail file or anything!!!

When I was there in December 2001, they were just looking (glancing, really) at bags. At that time, I didn't notice any more security people, but I am sure they were there.

When I went there during Christmas, they checked all of our bags. They weren't that picky though. I was just upset becuz they lost that entire "Disneyesque" feeling:(

They check your bags, but they aren't that picky. The only thing is that the lines are sometimes a pain in the rear.

Not Picky?
LOL When I was there Last Month, They Dug Deeply into my Camera Bag, They even made me remove the false bottom of the bag...
I didnt mind though, I would rather be Annoyed than Dead

Dan
PS. I was pulled to take an Exit survey, and one of the questions on it was "Do You Think Security was Enough", so they are listening to guests on that end

Have you ever seen "Never Been Kissed"? When he goes through her purse, and hes like ok, ok, ok, then he pulls out a nail file, and he's like that's a weapon...and he throws it into a pile of like 50,000 nail files!

That's so funny!

I don't think you'll have a problem w/ security btw...:)

I was there 11/26 - 12/2. The security depended largely on which security guard you got. Some it was cursory and others was a little more in depth but nothing invasive. I did notice more security in the hotel but not more in the parks.

My beef is that the security is only a feel good measure for those individuals not bright enough to realize that they are not really preventing much of anything. There were numerous ways to sneak nasty things into the park if one truly thought about it. The only thing they were preventing was people getting into the park in an orderly fashion.

Probably the best example of this was at DS in the afternoon. They had pine shrubs blocking the view of the turnstyles with entries only on the extreme right or left. As it turns out, one side was the entry and the other was the exit but no signs to tell you which way was which.

Epcot was the best of the group when it came to entry and exit and MK was the worst. If they plan on continuing this, I hope they get it figured out before the summer rush because otherwise they will have a number of ticked tourists.

I understand why they feel they need to do this, but they just aren't doing it right. Okay I am done ranting now.

I couldnt Agree with you More. Someone could hide somthing in their coat, shirt, (or as we have now seen, shoes) Checking a bag sometimes isnt enough to do anything.

When I was there, I think DS was by FAR the worst, they were the ones, that everytime I went there they made me take out the false bottom of the case, no other park did this. Epcot came in second, I waited in line for about 15 mins one day for security. AK was easy, and I was through the line in under a minute, and MK was the best, for some reason(More Space??) they had 6 or 7 tables set up for security....

after reading all this I just want to groan at the thought that it may take up to 15 minutes to get in the parks, Maybe by the time I go in April they will have sped up the process. It is true what EnSkywalker said if someone wants to get something in to the parks they will find a way and it doesnt even have to be a guest. But I suspose that Disney has to take what ever steps they think might prevent something being brought in. I went to a theme park in northern California right after the attack and they were using those body scanners and searching bags I thought at the time it was stupid ( and you dont want to know what I thought of the park ) but no one else seemed to think so. So I guess if there is a hold up due to searches ..we will have to grin and bear it.
