The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that SeaWorld is attempting to reach a settlement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) over the recent death of a trainer. The trainer, Dawn Brancheau, was pulled into the water and killed by the whale, Tilikum. This pre-citation settlement would allow SeaWorld to adopt new policies and rules without being cited by OSHA for not having these policies in place earlier. It would avoid major fines for the aquatic park.

SeaWorld says they have not entered into any agreement with OHSA, but they have communicated with them. OSHA has until August to complete their investigation.

I don't understand how OSHA can regulate the safety of employees who work with KILLER whales. I know this is old news but I'm new and I just found this thread. I just assumed that if you were in that line of work that you signed a waiver saying that the company was not responsible for losses. This has got me curious as to what the rules and regulations are to keep employees safe.
