Seagulls at the World

My wife and I visited WDW in January 2001 and we noticed that the seagull problem that we noticed at the Magic Kingdom a year before had become much worse and had expanded to Epcot. We also noticed that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was covered in bird poop.

We will be at WDW from Dec 11 - 19, 2001 and were wondering if any of you who have been to the World recently have noticed the same thing, or has Disney rinsed the place down?

I was just in the world August 16-25, and we went to IOA one day. In one of the sections we sat and ate outside (the section by Sinbad), and there were numerous seagulls around us. And I said to my mother, "Disney World doesn't have gulls around, they have special fences to keep them out." I was joking, cause WDW is so clean. Then a couple days later we were at the new volcano pool at the Polynesian and noticed that there were a few, only a few gulls around the tables. And my mother said, "see there are gulls in Disney World."

But that was it, I didn't notice any more seagulls or any birds in the parks.

I was in the World 7-29/8 and didn't see any seagulls. Did see lots of Squirrels though which we'd never seen before, they even jumped on the table outside the Deli at Downtown Disney and ate some of the kids cake much to their delight. We did meet some strange people who thought they where a nusiance, the squirrels not the kids that is !

Any place you have FOOD outside you are going to have scavaging birds and other animals. I have seen them at Disney World but they seemed to keep their distance.

On the other hand, I was at Sea World in Orlando last year and the Sea Gulls there would swoop down and steal food right out of your hand. It was frightening.

I'm not sure what they can do about this. They will probably wait until someone gets injured before they try to do anything. In the meantime people....DON'T FEED THE BIRDS AT THE PARKS.

I agree with not feeding the birds at the parks. I'm not sure if anyone else has had this experience, but while waiting for Fantasmic to start, ducks sit in the pond in front of the stage. People are obviously feeding these ducks because the minute popcorn comes out, ducks not only take notice, but will come at people and will follow them until and after they are fed. They even looked as if they were ready to attack for the food. Cast members were trying to scare the ducks back into the water, but they would just come back.
