Sea Cabs Idea!!!!

OK I am sorry if this idea has come up before but with our subs at DL going down I thoguht it could be used at Living Seas if it work well here. Also I am sorry to start up another "I have an idea" thread I try not to do this but I think its a good idea.

Here, at DL, for the subs update they are installing plexie glass boxes along the track that will have either small AA's or a projection going in it. That way it will look as if Nemo and pals are floating in the water right outside you window, when of course they will be nice and dry in the box. They will be telling us about what is going on or carrying along the story line or what ever it is going to be.... So why not at the Living Seas do the same type of thing along the Sea Cab track with a box every few windows on the sides and above you?? I think they could carry the same theme of visiting Sea Base Alpha and they introduce it to us and tell us to go see Crush and Dory talk.

I think it would be a great way to keep the theme we all love and bring some life to area without making it all about the kids and bring back a simple attraction that would draw in everyone.

That's a great idea, Jerm! But let me tell you -- what you're talking about is being considered by Walt Disney Imagineering. They have been touring the Living Seas, trying to set up projections of Nemo and friends in the Sea Cabs.

Although the question of finances (making Sea Cabs up to safety requirements) will be the determinant, the proposed plans are to make significant changes to Seas. (Although I don't think we'll be seeing Seabase Alpha or the hydrolators... who knows about the symbol... )

well that is great news about the sea cabs............ they are to unique to let go..... but that is unfortunate news about the hydrolators.

what are the reasons? upkeep? time in the queue? theme changing of "sea base alpha"?

One rumor from the DL Subs/Nemo rehab I would like to see come to TLS is the buoy with the AA Seaguls on it saying "Mine Mine" when a sub goes by.
I'm not sure if this rumor is true or just Jim Hill's imagination but when I read it, it made me laugh.
I thought this would be great out in front of TLS triggered to go off when a person walks past.

From what I hear, management just doesn't like them.

Sure, they may take an extra 15 seconds to leave or enter the Seabase, but they definitely add that reality to the experience.

I was in the hydrolators the other day. One child asked, "whoa, are we moving?" The mother said, "I don't know. You never know at Disney."

I, for one, would rather see them stay as they really add that touch of magic to the Seas. But I can clearly understand why others would want to see hydrolators removed.

Thanks Grizz that means a lot coming from you. I am sure WDI has thought of this idea with all the effort they have been putting into subs out here for the past few years, I am sure they came up with other places to use it. As far as the Sea Cabs go they could adapt them to the same config. as the Buzz AstroBlasters with the ADA car that works really well.

I would be really happy if they kept the hydrolators and just tossed in some projections above you of say Crush and Mr. Ray swimming around to add something to it. If they are going to start a overlay of Nemo why not just add him everywhere. I know some people hate the idea of Nemo or anything invading EPCOT but what would you rather have.....Wonders of Life(closed) or Living Seas with Nemo(open)?????

well it doesnt take a child to say that..... lol...... my wife in '00, her first visit to wdw, freaked out in a good way becuase she really though we had moved down. she didnt think that we went way down, but maybe a floor or two just for affect. plus, ill miss the bubbles effect. that is one of my favorite parts.

grizz, im not sure why they would want them out either. it just seems that they would be that much hassle, not much time in the queue. it is just part of it. i have a word for management but i cant display here, lol.

on a related topic wrong thread, im scared to ask about SSE.

one more thing, did i use effect and affect correctly. been awhile since english class.lol

Well, Living Seas already has Nemo. In a heck of a lot of places:

1. Gift shop! And gift shop decor
2. Images along the gift shop counter wall
3. A two floor exhibit on Nemo and friends
4. SeaWatch videos narrated by Ray and Crush
5. An entire area dedicated to Bruce and his friends
6. The new Turtle Talk show

I am mostly in love with #6 - a great addition to Epcot - but I hope Disney keeps the same areas on manatees, etc. - and keeps the educational points at Seas. For example, Turtle Talk with Dory, where she speaks whale and little of facts or importance of Seas, will entertain, but when Crush can answer questions about turtles, kids can take something with them. That's been the point of Epcot, and I hope any change to Seas can only improve that, while not making Seas an entire Fantasyland.

I would definitely like to see more in the way of Sea exploration - as Epcot is a park about human achievement. We've lost a few of these areas, but to see just a few exhibits around in the redesigned pavilion will be great and respectful.

That being said, that would be a cool effect to see Crush or Ray over the hydrolators. Although I am not sure the budget will permit it, you've got some great ideas that will really entertain the children. :)

The hydrolators are a hit or miss thing for me, if they stay or go, it doesn't matter. I don't see why management would dislike them so much, unless they were a maintenance issue.

I'm all for the inclusion of Nemo to the pavillon, but they don't need to be on every window or escalator, less is more sometimes.

As far as adding characters to EPCOT, I think some pavillons could use it desperately, TLS & WOL. 3 pavillons out of 7 (even though The Land has minor character implementation with TLK) is not overkill.

My wife's cousin's children were at Epcot with us a few years ago and were bored stiff (6 & 8 yr old boys) and they kept saying "Mom, when are we going back to Disney". That should tell you something.

I agree 100% with you on this... although I don't think, for example, that Wonders of Life should be exclusively themed with characters. Perhaps add a few in Sensory Funhouse. But WOL also has a Goofy show, as well as a few exhibits featuring Merlin and Alice (in Wonderland). Adding a few more things would be great, but I'm also keep an eye out for the next ORIGINAL theme park character.

WHO will he/she be? :lookaroun

But I think we have a lost cause, Kevin Page. We know how Disney is with marketable characters. (Not that marketing is a bad thing - less can be more, as you have said). Ever see Stitch picking his nose in Future World West? Catch him multiple times on every monorail in Epcot...

True, Nemo is the sea, so I accept them tailoring that to the pavillon far more than you would any character to WOL. Unless they changed the whole theme of the pavillon, no movie or character would make sense as an overlay. They should use a potpurri of characters for different exhibits.

Chicken Little at WOL  Is that a way to tell kids "don't worry you won't have a heart attack, don't freak out!!!!!!"

I would go more for Toy Story in the Sensory Funhouse. Not - that's right, not - for the rest of the pavilion.

I don't see Chicken Little as a good host for the pavilion, as it's not all about stress, but if you're talking about a small exhibit, we'll see what the movie turns out like. Although I believe the Cranium Command show to be VERY effective. The original characters there should be preserved, in my opinion, unless a more entertaining, more inspiring show can be created... which could be tough!

No problem :p ... although I like this one more than the one showcasing his butt.

The 50th ads are much nicer.

Just be warned: there are usually three per side on the monorail... it varies... you don't have to look if you don't want... now that you know...

i would never fake being blind........ that is sick and wrong, but in the case of keeping my lunch down, i think kharma would understand if i shut my eyes and got an escort onto the monorail (no, im not putting the blue smilie with the shades on after that statement!) ........... or i could just ride infront, problem solved :D
