Scooter or no scooter

Alright I haven't been to wdw in ages and hope sometime to go but I have an issue I cnt decide scooter or no scooter I have a really bad knee and I'm too young for knee replacement I've had 3 surgies for the past 3 yrs last one was due to I lost all my cartilage.. I can walk but long distances I start feeling like I'm climbing a mountain and getting leg pain.. But I don't want to be one of those people that people complain cus there in a scooter and they look fine which I'm not cus of my knee I have fibro and ibs.. I've read some older post abt people complain abt people useinf them and being on. The bus and takeing room I will say I feel embarrassing haveing to use them I just hate it .. Should I not scooter and take my sweet time even if I'm walking like a 80 ur old lady or scooter I can't figaure it out due to one I will stand in line but I just need breaks from walking so some please help I'm young and I hate people judging just cus I look 16 but really 27 doesn't mean that I'm fine ...

I think the majority of scooter complaints are(and don't judge me for being mean) people who are obese and too lazy to walk!

If you have an injury that is another story. Just don't be like those crazy obese people thinking they can run everyone over and yell to get out of their way an you should be fine!

Have you ever seen the South Park episode on this? It hilarious!

Given the type of knee injury you have I would assume that you have some fairly medieval looking knee braces in your possession. Just wear the most diabolical looking one and that will alleviate much of the judgmental staring.

No I did see those post abt those and there was one abt younger ages.. I'm just one i hate them an I don't know if walking is going to be overload on my knee.. I think I'm try advoiding that cus I know I can walk but I also know that's alot of walkig at wdw.. And I didn't think ur mean I'm not one of those obese people either I do get some people reason that thy should walk.. But I didn't want to be out into a place where everyone states and like she's normal. I guess I'll just tuff and walk and just sit when I need to throw a bad knee and fibro together is a bad mixture not many understand lol and yes I'm seen South Park lol I love that show..

I am having the same issue as you. I have knee problems have had hip surgery and I have fibro as well. After a while of standing and then walking and then standing starts to really hurt. I have no been back to WDW because I am so afraid of how my body will react to all the walking and standing. I have been going back and forth with using a scooter a wheel chair or sucking it up. I have decided to get a GAC just to have in case I find I need assistance I will already have the card. Still haven't decided on scooter or not and I leave in 29 days. I have been know to sit down right in a ride line on the ground people look at me weird but I have gotten to the point where I know my pain and I do not care how other people think about it. You have to get to that place accept you medical issues and dont give a crap at what other people think.

If you need a scooter by all mean get a scooter, who cares if people give you strange looks. That is their problem, you don't want to risk more injury to your knee if you can avoid it. Sometimes people on the scooters annoy me but then I rethink it and be glad that I don't have to use one. If I needed to use one I would and I wouldn't care if people were giving me judgemental looks.

Get a scooter, or a wheelchair. No one would ever (unless they are an ) worry about people with knee replacements and/or surgeries using the appropriate tools. Smile and enjoy your Disney trip!

Thanks everyone.. If I could have a wish it would be a week without pain from both fibro and knee.. Not many understand the fibro at all.. And throw knee problems it's like a bus hit u.. I want to enjoy and wish pain would go away but will never happen I just want my kids to have fun trip it's all abt them this is there chance and I don't want to spoil it.. I wish some people are not judgemental too others.. Some need to understand not to judge people just cus they look like a normal person u never know what's really wrong.. And I love the Big Mac part.. I do see there point if people would get up and move they wouldn't be needing it.. (As I'm saying this I lost 30lbs this yr) and no I wasn't over 200 lbs but the feeling being lighter is better lol

You're right on with people not being too judgmental. We have to rent a scooter for my husband. He's a very young looking 42 and people think he looks too healthy when we use scooters and handicapped parking. What they can't see is that he was born with a major heart defect and is possibly going to need a transplant in the next few years. We've gotten to point that we just go with what he needs and if the situation warrants I'm not above making a very directed comment towards people who are rude to us. If you need a scooter to get around and enjoy yourself I say go for it. You won't enjoy yourself if you're in a lot of pain from walking.

Not that I know much about heart defects, but what would that have to do with walking around?

Its not necessarily the walking, but the amount of walking and the overexurtion on an already weak heart.

She's exactly right. Add on the effects of meds, heat and high humidity and walking becomes a problem for people with cardiac and some respiratory conditions. There are many things that would warrant the use of a scooter. My feeling is that if someone knows their body isn't up to the challenge of multiple miles a day then by all means use a scooter so you get to enjoy your time in the parks too.

If you need the scooter get it. I too have no cartilage remaining in my left knee but I can walk long distances. I have kept up the rehab exercises that strengthen the muscles around the knee and also got Orthovisc injections as well. The doc and the therapist do not recommend braces, but strenghtening exercizes instead. Between that and Celebrex I am doing ok, for now. A knee replacement is in my future.
